  the node.js version of the TPF server is actually why I created this issue.
  
  My concept of the fragment server was that it could decentralize a big 
dataset by distributing data fragments to it with selectors, 
 so I am 
not exactly sure how implementing a Blazegraph TPFServer is in the overall WDQS 
scope.  It could help perhaps for decentralizing your data internally, or for 
caching named graphs, though it would probably not by itself facilitate using 
WDQS as a SPARQL datasource for external TPF implementations.

  openvirtuoso (dbpedia) can do this.
  
  there is not a maven artifact similar to sesame-queryresultio-sparqlxml for 
turtle so this seems not possible without developing a new package for sesame.  
 there is, however, org.openrdf.rio.turtle.TurtleWriter.
  
  this would be useful to have for generating contextual subsets (fragments) of 
"loadable data" for consumers.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  When I edit query in WDQS GUI, each time I change something, new history 
entry is produced, so that if I type a lot there is a huge number of history 
entries generated.
  
  This is inconvenient and confusing. I'd say instead new history entry should 
be produced when the query is run and when new query is started, such as by 
clean or opening new window, otherwise it should be replaced.

  This also seems problematic for other tools, e.g. as I explained in 
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Topic:Szxlu94k4l8qx7zx, Duplicity doesn't work 
very well for zh_min_nanwiki right now. To fix it, it would currently need to 
use "nan" as the language code for the API and "zh-min-nan" for 
Special:NewItem. It would be better if the same code could be used in both 
places.

  I did some live experimentation with manual edits to the VCL.  It is the 
`between_bytes_timeout`, but the situation is complex.  The timeout that's 
failing is on the varnish frontend fetching from the varnish backend.  These 
are fixed at 2s, but because this is all in do_stream mode, the stream delays 
come through directly.  So, as I guessed earlier, this is all inter-related 
with https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T128813.  We should fix that issue first 
before deciding what to do about the between bytes timeout for 
varnish<->varnish (where it's not per-service...).

  @BBlack 4s looks way to low, especially given that Blazegraph does stream 
results, so it may definitely happen than it has pauses between bytes. But what 
looks weird to me is that empty request seems to finish even faster than 4s. In 
any case, would it be hard to raise between_bytes_timeout and see if that helps?

  Continuing investigation:
  
  1. capture tcpdump from cp1045: `sudo tcpdump -i any 'host 
wdqs1001.eqiad.wmnet or port 80' -w varnish.pcap`. This should capture both 
ingress and egress traffic to varnish.
  2. send query directly to varnish from cp1045: `curl -k -D - 
'http://localhost/bigdata/namespace/wdq/sparql?query=SELECT%20%3Fitem%20WHERE%20%7B%0A%20%20%3Fitem%20wdt%3AP22%20%3Fsub0%20.%0A%20%20%3Ftree0%20(wdt%3AP40)*%20%3Fsub0%20.%0A%20%20BIND%20(wd%3AQ7210%20AS%20%3Ftree0)%0A%7D=json'
 --header 'Host: query.wikidata.org' --header 'X-Forwarded-Proto: https'`
  3. check that `X-Served-By` == wdqs1001
  4. analysis with wireshark, with filter `http.request.uri contains tree0` 
(tree0 matches the query string)
  5. only one packet matches (ingress to varnish), I can't see any traffic from 
varnish to wdqs
  
  As a check, I did the same test with random URLs where the response comes 
from WDQS, I can see ingress and egress traffic.
  
  This actually does not match the previous observations where I did see the 
request arriving at wdqs. I probably need more coffee (or a second pair of eyes 
if anyone is interested...).

  This is probably due to backend timeouts, I would guess?  The default 
applayer settings being applied to wdqs include `between_bytes_timeout` at only 
4s, whereas `first_byte_timeout` is 185s.  So if wdqs delayed all output, it 
would have 3 minutes or so, but once it outputs the first byte, any delay over 
4s will kill it.  Although I'm surprised that doesn't result in a 503.  There's 
probably also multi-layer interaction with 
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T128813 and the do_stream and such...

  Doing a tcpdump capture, it seems that both request directly to nginx on 
wdqs1001 and requests going through LVS + varnish (see the curl in above 
comment) arrive correctly at Blazegraph. Blazegraph sends response in both 
cases. Taking tcpdumps in front of nginx or between nginx and blazegraph leads 
to the same conclusion: requests and responses look just fine at those points. 
The response is most probably dropped closer to the client (varnish?).
