[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T132223: Track pageviews of specific pages that are rendered with ArticlePlaceholders
Nuria added a comment. Comments from the project standpoint: @Addshore: we will not be adding new features to Pageview API until we have finished our scaling project and added counting of pageviews for wikis for which it is not happening (ex: outreachwiki) Any feature additions will happen either end of next quarter (November) or later. Technical comments: prefix=Special:AboutTopic/ Having queries such as this one pushes a lot of knowledge about mediawiki urls into the pageview API, we want to keep the API mediawiki agnostic as much as as possible and the parsing of those pageviews (if indeed each record is a different page) should happen earlier in the pipeline. A better semantics would be to have categories under which pages live like: "data-item" or "medical" so you could query for pages like category=data-item and page=Q2834518. Then a pageview for https://lv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AboutTopic/Q2834518 would show in your query. The Special:AboutTopic seems really a work around needed in mediawiki that should not be propagated.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T132223EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: NuriaCc: Legoktm, Nuria, Lucie, Addshore, Lydia_Pintscher, Ricordisamoa, Quiddity, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, jayvdb, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

Addshore added a comment. In T132223#2319015, @Nuria wrote: I am not sure this requires any works from analytics team. Seems like the data you need is already available on pageview API. You just need to find out which are the pages you are interested in finding pageview stats for qnd querying the pageview API with those. correct? So I believe that this ticket is talking about wanting a list of these pages with the most views. A broader way of describing this would be a list of pages on a project or across multiple projects that have the most views based on a prefix. So someone would query for something like: project=* prefix=Special:AboutTopic/ or project=enwiki prefix=Special:AboutTopic/ And would then be returned a list such as: 193 Special:AboutTopic/Q123 89 Special:AboutTopic/Q92183 73 Special:AboutTopic/Q111 20 Special:AboutTopic/Q43 1 Special:AboutTopic/999 1 Special:AboutTopic/987 Whould this be something that the analytics team could add to the pageview api? I do however already see an issue here, as the specialpage namespace is localised and thus getting this data may be hard. If this is not something that the analytics team would like to see in the pageview api then we will have to explore other routes of regularly getting and publishing the data, the hive query for this from the webrequest table should be fairly straight forward.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T132223EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: AddshoreCc: Legoktm, Nuria, Lucie, Addshore, Lydia_Pintscher, Ricordisamoa, Quiddity, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, jayvdb, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

Addshore added a comment. @hoo @Lucie so I just took a quick look at the webrequest data and getting the numbers via that means will be fine and would provide us with daily data. An example entry can be seen below.. {"http_method":"GET","uri_host":"cy.wikipedia.org","uri_path":"/wiki/Arbennig:AboutTopic/Q432087","uri_query":"""referer":"https://cy.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=chris+ryan&title=Arbennig:Search&go=Go&searchToken=eo5w649tpumdso7dk6y9l06o5","x_analytics":"ns=-1;special=AboutTopic;loggedIn=1;WMF-Last-Access=15-Aug-2016;https=1"} As we already do we can identify when the AboutTopic special page has been hit by using the 'special' element of the x_analytics header which would be 'AboutTopic' for the page in all languages (alongside a ns of -1) Matching Special:Search from the referrer will be slightly harder, as we can not use the namespace to match the string as it is different in different languages (and there is no sort of normalisation done (we could of course come up with some crazy normalisation) The parameters in the URL however will always be there, so we could match referers that include a search= param and maybe a searchToken? and also make sure that the referer hostname is the same as the uri hostname? [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T142903: Get sitelink from Item without loading the full Item (via Lua).
Jarekt added a comment. Current LUA implementation assumes that lua knows user language ( through call to int:lang) and gets all the sitelinks to wikipedia projects. It looks for sitelink in the chosen language and if not found than it look for sitelinks in fallback languages ending on English. If that one is not present either than it returns no link. This process is following functionality of Template:LangSwitch, which over the years was used 12 million times on Commons. However now Template:LangSwitch is applied to data pulled from wikidata. For example 3M calls to Template:City recently switched to calls to Wikidata using the above mechanism.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142903EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JarektCc: hoo, Jarekt, Zolo, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

At the moment that is THE main use of Wikidata on Commons (we hope to write code or other uses) and it should be optimized. Calls to get label+sitelink in the user language are used in many templates which are then transcluded into great many files. A single file could have up to dozen such links. That sounds tough, as we don't really have data to decided which Wikipedia fits best when. Building a lookup for a specific site (Wikipedia) or site group is doable. At the moment that is THE main use of Wikidata on Commons (we hope to write code or other uses) and it should be optimized. Calls to get label+sitelink in the user language are used in many templates which are then transcluded into great many files. A single file could have up to dozen such links.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142903EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JarektCc: hoo, Jarekt, Zolo, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

Mvolz added a comment. FYI, you can try to get a particular language by setting the accept-language header in citoid. It doesn't work a lot of the time because it doesn't work in Zotero, and of course it depends on if the resource accepts the accept-language header. But, for instance, it works with twitter.com and 'de' so you would do: $.ajax( { beforeSend: function (request) { request.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'application/json'); request.setRequestHeader('Accept-Language', 'de'); // Use this header to request the resource in the particular language, i.e. 'en', 'de' }, url: ' https://citoid.wikimedia.org/api' type: 'GET', data: { search: encodeURIComponent('http://twitter.com'), format: 'mediawiki' }, dataType: 'json', success: function ( citationArray ) { doSomething( citationArray ); }, error: function ( request, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert( 'Status:' + textStatus + 'Error: ' + errorThrown ); } } ); This wasn't documented anywhere before but I just added some: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Citoid/API#Headers https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Citoid/API#In_a_JavaScript_userscriptTASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T141856EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: aude, MvolzCc: Mvolz, aude, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, merbst, Wess, D3r1ck01, Shangkuanlc, Izno, Jrf, Husun1297, mobrovac, Wikidata-bugs, Etonkovidova, Swainr, Jdforrester-WMF, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

hoo added subscribers: Lydia_Pintscher, hoo.hoo added a comment. It looks to me these identifiers should not be entered with a plus, but rather with a space. While the web service supports pluses as far as I can see, it only uses them to encode spaces (http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=beta%20del also works and is also in line with the identifier on the page). I suggest to decline this task, changing this will possible break other identifiers that actually contain a +. hoo added a comment. @Lydia_Pintscher I couldn't find anything regarding that in our arguments doc and also can't remember what name we came up with back then. I chose to go with statement here, as it's a short name (easy to remember, hard to misremember, which might happen with a name that is property-something). Also it's the right term for what it does, while property is not (you can argue that it stands for renderstatementbyproperty or so, but I think that's not what people have in mind).TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142940EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: hooCc: aude, daniel, Lydia_Pintscher, Aklapper, hoo, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs
