[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Updated] T47843: Rework API error reporting
Anomie added a comment. Note I'm not following exactly the design laid out in the current description of this task, for example error codes aren't going away and the message key+params aren't returned in conjunction with text/html output of the message. In T47843#2779524, @Nikerabbit wrote: Drive-by comments: defaulting to html for error messages might not be a good idea. On the other hand, the mix if html and non-html is not good either. Should we do both by stripping html into plaintext? The default is the backwards-compatible "plaintext" output, which I'm currently implementing as ->text() (so {{PLURAL}} works) followed by a pass to replace , , , and with quotation marks, remove other HTML tags (with no attempt at semantic awareness of block tags or the like), and unescape HTML entities to give something resembling plaintext. If the client wants non-BC output, it's responsible for explicitly asking for "plaintext" (as above), "wikitext" (->text()), "html" (->parse()), "raw" (->getKey() and ->getParams()), or "none". If at some point in the future we decide to not have BC format be the default, we can decide then which format should be. We should also consider making it more explicit what kind of errors the API can return so that clients can be prepared. That's almost impossible to do since non-API hooks can easily wind up exposing new errors to the API, which is why the existing attempt along those lines was removed in rMWf0a6435f3b72: API: Remove action="" 'props' and 'errors' result properties. I am also wondering how to strike the balance of forcing clients to use proper errors related to the user's task instead of generic "failed to save the page". Would it be possible to loop-in frontend standard groups to think of some standard ways of displaying errors and warnings instead of every system having to do it from scratch? This task makes it possible for the client to fetch localized text for error messages, but whether or how any client actually uses them is outside the scope of this task.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T47843EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: AnomieCc: Nikerabbit, Tgr, bearND, MZMcBride, Fhocutt, Aklapper, Ricordisamoa, Wikidata-bugs, Anomie, He7d3r, Catrope, Yurik, wikibugs-l-list, Reedy, daniel, PleaseStand, Sethakill, dg711, jayvdb, Legoktm___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Lowered Priority] T150018: [RfC] Decide what link text to use for rich wikitext formatted URLs
thiemowmde lowered the priority of this task from "High" to "Low".thiemowmde added a comment. Not all browsers hide the scheme in the address bar. Some browsers also hide everything after the question mark. Do we need to be "consistent" with that? Personally I believe it's a horrible idea to hide possibly critical information from the user. This is an actual attack vector. We do support many schemes, including irc and svn, to name just a few. We can not hide all, otherwise the user can not distinguish ftp://example.com and http://example.com any more. But just hiding some schemes is inconsistent and confusing. I believe it's still valuable to see the difference between http:// and https://. Browsers show lock icons when they hide https://. I believe we should not add icons to our wikitext renderer. Hiding http:// did made some sense when a URL started with www. or ended with a commonly known top level domain like .com. Almost all users will understand that they are looking at a URL when they see www.example.com. Most German users will understand that they are looking at a URL when they see wikipedia.de. But this is language and region specific. We can not give any of these guarantees for the entirety of the Wikimedia movement. Nowadays strings like web.link or car.rentals (see http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/program-status/delegated-strings for a full list) are valid URLs, but do not look like one any more. Displaying the full https://car.rentals does make this so much more obvious, in my opinion. Please let's go with #1.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T150018EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: thiemowmdeCc: Izno, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, daniel, aude, Lucie, thiemowmde, gerritbot, TomT0m, hoo, D3r1ck01, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T142944: Performance and caching considerations for article placeholders accesses
BBlack added a comment. I clicked Submit too soon :) Continuing: We'd expect content to be at minimum a day, if not significantly longer. MW currently emits 2-week cache headers (with plans to eventually bring that down closer to a day, but those plans are still further off). Cache invalidation is a hard problem, but it's not something we can just ignore, either. Perhaps this should be tied into the broader X-Key effort to sweep these up when the underlying wikidata is updated?TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142944EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: BBlackCc: DaBPunkt, BBlack, daniel, Lydia_Pintscher, Joe, Lucie, Aklapper, hoo, Zppix, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, jayvdb, Ricordisamoa, faidon, Mbch331, Jay8g, fgiunchedi___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T150240: [RfC] Find a name for mw.wikibase.renderSnak(s) alternative with richt wikitext output
hoo created this task.hoo added projects: Wikidata, MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseClient. TASK DESCRIPTIONWe currently have mw.wikibase.renderSnak and mw.wikibase.renderSnaks which render a Snak/ Snaks to Wikitext escaped plain text. We also want to provide such functions that emit rich wikitext, so that for example qualifiers and references can easily be formatted. Similar to what we did with the new mw.wikibase.entity:formatStatements, we need to create new functions for this, with a new name. I suggest to name these mw.wikibase.formatValue/ mw.wikibase.formatValues or mw.wikibase.formatSnak/mw.wikibase.formatSnaks. The first one has the advantage that it doesn't contain Snak (a term we don't want to expose).TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T150240EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: hooCc: Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, daniel, aude, Lucie, thiemowmde, gerritbot, TomT0m, hoo, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs
