It accepts old style wdq (wdq=) and sparql (sparql=). Deprecation warning should be added in the big projects when wdq= is set and a tracker category added. That way we can easily switch the remaining lists to the new syntax. In order to achieve this, two things must be known: the interwiki prefix for the target repo. This should, by convention, be the same as the repo name. But we'll need a mechanism to enforce this, or to provide a mapping in case this assumption doesn't hold. the page title on the target wiki. This means we need to either know the namespace name for each entity type on the target wiki, or we need a way to link without knowing the namespace name. This could be achieved by each repo exposing Special:EntityPage, which will redirect to the correct local page given an entity ID. Multichill added a comment. I also noticed that the query converter gives interesting output. Things like not using MINUS. I tend to also make the query a bit easier or better when converting. The number of pages is much lower than I expected on other wiki's. Magnus added a comment. Actually, ListeriaBot automatically replaces "simple" WDQ with SPARQL upon editing. I could extend that to "all WDQ", with exceptions where the converter doesn't work. Do you have some per wiki statistics @Magnus of wdq usage in lists per wiki? I believe there would be one extra step needed: ClientStore interface provides PropertyInfoStore (more specific interface extending PropertyIInfoLookup) instance to the WikibaseClient. We could introduce DispatchingPropertyInfoStore that would use DispatchingPropertyInfoLookup instance for read operations, and a "usual" PropertyInfoStore implementation (PropertyInfoTable/CachingPropertyInfoStore) for write operation on local repo. It should deny doing any write operations on properties from foreign repositories. Having them in the configuration does not really seem a best solution. They are not configuration. They should not be replaced by the user with some other files, neither should they be editted by user like "usual" configuration files. On the other hand, we might want to have a way, for example for extensions, of adding more wiring files (e.g. when the extension adds a service, it might want to have it work with foreign entities too). WMDE-leszek added a comment. I haven't looked at the problem in detail yet but I am sorry to say it seems to me that having some kind of definition in entitytypes is a better option here. Using hooks seems a bit hacky here, while entity type definitions exist for dealing with such issues as I got it. I can imagine this is not going to be an easy task to change it all to work, that's a shame. I talked briefly with @daniel about this and he also doesn't like the hook option much. This leads to DispatchingServiceFactory depend on the top-level factory, which is bad. DispatchingServiceFactory should be able to instantiate the "basic" EntityIdParser itself.
