This time, all of the OSM data uses integer storage instead of the original strings ("osmnode:123" treats 123 as a prefix + an int). This removes CDN purges from HTMLCacheUpdate, and only performs them after RefreshLinks, and only if nothing else caused a re-render since. Unfortunately the throttling still happens regardless of page touched. Throttling isn't based on actual purges performed but on the number of work items in a job. Work items are a simple count of pages in the job, rather than how many pages will actually be purged. I'd be careful about parser cache and an extensions using page_touched to validated cached values. In an institutional website, a cataloger wants to create a metadata tag, that includes both a plain text and a URI based reference for what they are describing -- for fields created by the institutional website using some metadata standard. As an institutional website developer, I want to provide a suggestion box for that field, so that the cateloger uses our controlled vocabulary (based on Wikidata), instead of having to either a) copy and paste qids into the field or b) do the matching in a seperate ecosystem (say Google Spreadsheets or Open Refine). The output of the tool needs a plain-text label for human readable use of the catelogue/collection software, and the uri in a format appropriate for linked-open data schamas. Open questions: Could we create a "model widget" that could be used by developers on common institutional platforms (Drupal, Dspace, Koah etc) , that provides access to an auto-fill tool, that is akin to what folks get when adding a property and value on Wikidata? So anything older than 4 days should be safely discardable. Joe added a comment. @aaron so you're saying that when we have someone editing a lot of pages with a lot of backlinks we will see the jobqueue growing basically for quite a long time, as the divided jobs will be executed at a later time, and as long as the queue is long enough, we'll see jobs divided/inserted in the queue when division jobs are executed. Now, given the max TTL on our caches is hard capped at 1 day, I think we might want to drop any job whose rootjobTS is farther in the past than 1 day. Looking at the content of those three (https://als.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spezial:Alli_Syte?from===104, https://pfl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schbezial:Alle_Seiten?from===104 and https://bar.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spezial:Alle_Seiten?from===104), I'm not sure how well this would work: It seems that those namespaces aren't restricted to words where Cognate would be useful, they also contain all the other non-category pages like the main page, lists and templates (which should use normal Wikidata items, not Cognate). There's also no case distinction for the first letter of the page names. Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE added a comment. So change Iaaac950b48 implements caching on the most granular level we have, for the “format constraint” check: does arbitrary text match arbitrary regex? This is very common constraint type – practically all “external identifier” properties have one or more regexes to ensure that the identifier matches a certain format, many “Commons link” properties have regexes to assert that the link has a particular file name extension, and several “URL” properties check the protocol with a regex (e. g. only https?://.+). It is also, according to our statsd tracking, one of the most expensive constraint types. And as long as the regex flavor is stable, the result is valid indefinitely: it depends only on the text and the regex. The question is whether it makes sense to cache this information, given the scale of Wikimedia’s object cache. I wrote a small script (P5921) to check how many format constraints each property has (it can have several), and how many statements, which should tell us how many combinations of text and regex there are to be cached (approximately). The script fails for one property (too many statements to count in WDQS), so I got the count for that property via another tool (see commit message for details). Overall, I estimate there are about one hundred million text-regex combinations for which we could cache the boolean result. I assume that most of these combinations will never be hit (currently, only 193 users have the checkConstraints gadget enabled, and many items with “external identifier” statements will probably never be visited by any user with the gadget enabled), but still, that’s a huge number, and I have no idea if it’s sensible to cache that or not.
