The ops LDAP group should just be called "ops". Maybe we don't even need to have it though.

We already have "wikidata-dev", we can use that.

Dropdown menus show left alignment (it may be valid for "tools", as tools have Latin names, and wrong for "help")

Also, I assume for the “Help” menu, the order of question mark icon, “help” text, and dropdown arrow should be reversed in rtl locales? Hm, I’m not sure about that… on https://mideastunes.com/, the arrow points to the right in both the English and the Arabic version. And on YouTube with language set to Arabic, the play button also points to the right. I'd suggest splitting (at least the nt dump as I work mostly with those and therefore have an opinion on that side) in the following:


Triples regarding properties (where the property is the subject)
Triples that contain language information (aka the labels)
The "pure" direct triples


In case someone works with those, I think it's reasonable to assume they just need one of those dumps, or are able to combine them. Application developers prefer to have the SHA1. I'm trying to weigh cost against benefit. I can assess benefit from the conversation on wikitech-l (basically: it would be very annoying not to have this, but not catastrophic, and maybe it's enough to have the hash in the dumps, not in the database).

That's the problem: nobody seems for feel confident to make any final statement on questions like this. MW experts don't know the database details enough. DBAs don't know the application layer enough. Nobody is willing to do a final sign-off.

The best we can do is talk to each other and make sure neither group sees a major problem. If we wait until everyone is confident that the proposal is optimal, we'll probably never move. It's only needed on wikibase repos (wikidatawiki (s5), testwikidatawiki (s3))
I have the patch that if gets merged, it will fix the beta and then we can see if it works just fine or not.
It's not b/c compatible, we can't restore dropped table (I think at least) but the table won't be used in the production anyway. The replicas in labs need to drop it too.

@Lydia_Pintscher, we have an incoming volunteer patch for this. Can you please decide on how to proceed here? It's a little more complicated because removing this unwanted "feature" does have implications we need to think about. E.g. what should happen to empty sitelinks when you can not remove them with the backspace key any more? we would need slot_page and content_page
all (unique/primary) indexes would have to start with the page id
all selects and joins will have to use the page ID (this needs some changes in the code, but not much)
it's two integer (or bigint) columns in two very tall tables
queries across pages will be inefficient, or need a separate table (note that we don't need a contributions table unless we also partition the revision table)
in some (rare) cases (e.g. undelete of a very old revision, or a history split), page ids would have to be re-written or content rows would have to be duplicated with different page ids.



Regarding whether we should use partitioning or not - the only concern I'd have (by looking at the numbers listed on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Multi-Content_Revisions/Content_Meta-Data#Database_Schema) is the disk size. The access pattern and performance...I am not super sure it would get an instant benefit from the sharding (look at the current revision or page table numbers). 
It is hard to tell without having some scenarios where we can test.

By looking at the current size of revision and page table (for enwiki), and looking at the draft numbers posted on the above link, for the first years we should probably be fine.
Not sure if we can an optimal design now that would prevent us from dropping this in production and avoid touching it for 5 years :-)

if we declare it INT for now, we'll have to convert it when we convert rev_id.



It is true that in some cases joining different column types can give some performance drawbacks, we should do some testing to see how much it would degrade the query.
If at some point we have to convert rev_id to BIGINT, that will be a big maintenance that can potentially take weeks/months, so I guess we can include the conversion of slot_revision to bigint along with it.

Thanks for the additional information, that was very helpful. I stepped through the code and found that this line is still executed, but this happens a little to early. The values input box is not there the moment the focus is set. My theory is that something related to the "afterdraw" event changed in jQuery 3.

Hmm that is nice, that doesn't seem to work too well for Rembrandt. I guess his paintings have traveled too far over time. I like the plot of the places of residence, but it would be nice to have them plotted with lines in order of residence. We have lots of people on Wikidata (not just painters) who unlike Rembrandt, were born in one country, lived in another country, and died in yet some other country. Sometimes location data helps to get these people onto the radar of various nationally-oriented wikiprojects. I didn't know that Descartes lived for a short while within bicycling distance of my house. Oh, I see, one SVG has a bounding box of 29×29 and the other has a bounding box of 21×21, but it looks like the icon ignores that.
