  Search team is working on creating an SLI to measure uptime of WDQS. We want 
our SLI to map as well to the actual user experience as possible, so to that 
end we're trying to come up with a way to hit WDQS endpoints externally or 
semi-externally. Ideally the solution would be ambivalent to the underlying 
pool/depool state of the underlying hosts (translation: if a host is depooled 
the request won't ultimately route to it).
  
  The primary idea we have is to send automated requests to each datacenter, 
for example by querying `wdqs.svc.{codfw,eqiad}.wmnet`. However I/we have some 
knowledge gaps that makes it a bit murky to get a clear idea of what exactly 
that solution looks like.
  
  Do you all have any thoughts on the best way to do this?
  
  To that end it'd help to sanity check a few assumptions I'm working off of:
  
  Assumptions

  **(A1)** By hitting `wdqs.svc.{codfw,eqiad}.wmnet`, we're bypassing any 
geoDNS logic since that happens earlier up in the stack.
  
  **(A2)** Requests that hit `wdqs.svc.{codfw,eqiad}.wmnet` round robin to an 
underlying pooled host in the fleet 
(https://config-master.wikimedia.org/pybal/eqiad/wdqs for example)
  
  Beyond the sanity check of those assumptions, I have a few further questions:

  **(Q1)** Is there precedent for this pattern already, ie is there perhaps an 
existing service that uses a similar approach?
  
  **(Q2)** If there isn't already precedent for this, what are your initial 
thoughts on the best way to do this? For example could we just literally send a 
request to `wdqs.svc.{codfw,eqiad}.wmnet` every X minutes from an alerting 
host, or is there a better way?

  This task proposes a possible solution for the Wikidata-specific task T317681 
, with implications for new Vector 
search in general.
  
  Currently, navigation for search results in the new Vector search works in 
two different ways.
  
  - If you interact with a search result as a link (left-click, middle-click, 
right-click + open in new tab, etc.), it sends you to the link address. With 
the default Vector URL generator, that link address is a Special:Search URL.
- Example URL: 
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch=Test
  - If you highlight a search result using the arrow keys on the keyboard, and 
then press Enter, then the behavior is the same as if you had entered the 
result’s label by hand and pressed Enter afterwards: you are sent to 
Special:Search with the result’s label as the search text, plus a hidden input 
for a wprov parameter .
- Example URL: 
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=Test=Special%3ASearch=acrw10
  
  We (Wikidata developers) propose that selecting a search result using the 
keyboard should also navigate to the search result’s URL, as if it had been 
followed as a link. (However, if a search result is highlighted, but then the 
input field is edited further before pressing Enter, that should count as a 
form submission again.) By default, this would barely make a difference: both 
URLs point to Special:Search, which usually redirects to the page whose title 
exactly matches the search input. (One URL is currently missing the wprov 
parameter , but that could be 
added to the search result URL anyways – @phuedx thought the lack of wprov when 
middle-clicking a search result might even be a bug.)

  As a user or editor browsing the Wikidata website, I want to quickly navigate 
to search results when using the main search bar on the page.
  
  **Problem:**
  Currently, navigation for search results in the new Vector search works in 
two different ways.
  
  - If you interact with a search result as a link (left-click, middle-click, 
right-click + open in new tab, etc.), it sends you to the link address. With 
the default Vector URL generator, that link address is a Special:Search URL.
- Example URL:

  The second approach doesn’t work at all for Wikidata items, where the search 
result’s label is not the same as the page title, or even uniquely identifies 
the search result: there are plenty of items labelled “Berlin”, but if I 
highlight the search result for Berlin, Illinois 
 and press Enter, I want to navigate to 
that particular item, not a search results page for “Berlin” in general.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Around 13:30 ET today, I received several "Unknown Error" messages in a row 
in the red bar in WCQS. No further explanation was given in the error message, 
and the error was returned almost immediately (so not after querying for a 
bit). I checked the console and saw the endpoint was returning an HTTP 429 
error, which is a "Too may requests" error. I hit this limit just by loading a 
three tabs and running a few different queries in each in quick succession, so 
it's not just going to affect bots. Can there be an actual descriptive UI error 
message for this response?

  Alright, the script finished and the remaining 4256 “other” usages are 
probably real ones.
  
  Also, it looks like barely any pages actually have enough statement usages to 
hit the customized, lower entity usage modifier limit:

  I forgot that there can still be legitimate “other” usages (I confused it 
with “X”, which we really expect to not exist at all). And most of the 
remaining “other” usages come from two pages that really just have a lot of 
those usages:
