to monolingual codes.

I would prefer to see that outcome in all honesty. Indian English has
millions of speakers worldwide and is much more popular than British or
Canadian English. I never really understood why users shouldn't be allowed to
use it for their interface language setting.

English" would be different?

While referring to a movie theatre
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movie_theater>, in Indian English it normally
would be called a //cinema hall//.
In elections, Americans will mention voting blocs
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_bloc> while Indians talk about vote banks
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Votebank>.

Then you have British-like spellings for things like "metre", "organisation",
or "colour".

With its unique terms and seperate spelling conventions, I would certainly
say this is more than justified.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T97566: Provide another way to surface usage instructions besides tacking them onto descriptions

Couldn't we just use qdw (**q**uery **d**ata **w**iki) like how
Translatewiki.net uses qqq
<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/FAQ#Special_private_language_codes_qqq,_qqx>?
It seems like the pretty obvious solution to this to me.. It'll also provide an
end-run around T140131 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T140131>.

  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
