 it seems the only real use of `EntityContent::getNativeData()` is in 
`EntityContent::getSize()`, and, except for redirected entities, 
`getNativeData()` is more or less the same thing than `getEntity()`.

  I’ve done a few patches, and I find OOUI is quite heavy if used only for the 
function throttle or “debounce with immediate execution” (mw.util.debounce 
executes after the delay, not before).
  
  The “immediate debounce” is needed in mediawiki.page.gallery and the throttle 
is needed in Translate and MobileFrontend. It can be used inline versions, but 
I’m moderately enthusiastic about that because of code duplication -- it is 
always a question of balance between maintainability and performance as already 
said above.

  I don’t have an authoritative answer, but it is currently tested against node 
v6.11.0 and npm v3.8.3 in CI (see e.g. this log

  I tested recently against node v8.11.1 (npm v6.9.0) and it works with this 
patch <https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/wikidata/query/gui/+/537631/>. And it 
doesn’t work with node v11.6.0+ because of fibers@2.0.2 as described here.

  For the first point, when there is SPARQL error, there is already an error 
displayed in JavaScript console saying where is located the error (line and 
character). The SPARQL analysis is provided by this library 
<https://github.com/RubenVerborgh/SPARQL.js>. To solve this first point, the 
error could be caught and displayed in the UI. Also, for a good UX, it should 
be thought when you display such error: when the user is typing? or when 
submitting the request?
  
  My point about the timing is: when the user is typing there are always errors 
because the SPARQL request is not finished. E.g. when I type:
  
SELECT ?item
{
  
  there is an error on line 2. So either the error should be displayed when the 
SPARQL request is submitted (but this is not really useful because Blazegraph 
already complains when there is an error), either there should be a timer to 
detect when the user stops typing (e.g. 2 seconds) but the user could stop 
typing to think about his/her request and be bothered by the error displayed. 
I’m not sure what is the best scenario.

  I had to modify it on an installation. I modified in LocalSettings.php the 
parameter $wgWBRepoSettings['string-limits']['multilang']['length'] (default is 
250) and augmented accordingly the two columns term_text and term_search_key of 
the table wb_terms (default is 255). Is there anything else to change?
  
  Also it is worth noting that the unit in MySQL is the byte for strings 
encoded in UTF-8, at the contrary of the number in LocalSetings.php which is 
the character, hence it would be better to fix the maximum length in MySQL to 4 
times the number in LS.php else the strings are truncated in MySQL and the 
uniqueness constraint provided by these MySQL columns could be weakened for 
non-ASCII characters.

  The link in the toolbox is a bit disappointing because it goes to the very 
same page after 3 redirects (whose one using http):

  Instead of solving this task, it would be better (but harder) to rewrite the 
current ooMenu without using jQuery.ui.widget but OOUI, given this component 
got deprecated by T142418 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142418>. But if I 
understand correctly the dependencies between components

 in addition of the suggester of the search box in non-item pages, most 
suggesters in items edition use ooMenu, which makes the task even harder.

I find wd: (and derivatives) should be reserved for Wikidata to avoid confusion, and the default installation of wdqs-updater should propose another prefix, advertised as shared between all default Wikibase installations. In this proposition, the default prefixes in the frontend would include wd: fixed as Wikidata and the shared prefix for the specific Wikibase installation.

Related to this task, I’ve created a script to sort the values of P⁠348 (versions of a software), see https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Seb35/sortValues.js (and talk page). It could be adapted for other properties.

But it will be better if it is integrated into Wikibase, perhaps by defining in the property page a specially-recognised property 'Ordering' saying to sort either with the value of the property (with some specially-recognised item) either according to some qualifier either according to the rank. E.g. on Property:P⁠580 we have such property to sort the values of this property directly by the values:

Ordering (PXX) = Value (QYY)

And on Property:P⁠1087 (Elo rating) there could be a property saying to sort by P⁠585 (date):

Ordering (PXX) = Date (P585)

Defining the order in the property page allows the community to discuss what order should be prioritised: e.g. for P⁠1087, should we sort by value or by qualifier "publication date" or by rank? The order defined by the community would be the default order, it could also be created scripts to define alternative orders for specific needs.

On the longer term:


it could be added a specially-recognised qualifier to this property to define sub-orders: when two values are identical, the second then the third (etc) order will be used. E.g. sort by P⁠580 (start date) then by P⁠582 (end date),
special collations could be added, e.g. for software versions the semantic versioning needs some special attention
where should be sorted the special values "no value" and "unknown value"?
should we (and how) deal with references? should we allow sorting by (e.g.) P⁠813 publication date from the reference?


PS: in this post, to avoid P⁠348 is intepreted by Phabricator as a link to a paste, and given I didn’t find how to avoid such behaviour in Remarkup syntax help, I used the Unicode character U+2060 (zero-width word joiner) between the P and the number. I just succeeded in using formatterUrlProperty on a test wiki. Here is my steps:


After installation of Wikibase repo, create a property with type String, it can be empty (without any statement), this will be the equivalent property than http://www.wikidata.org/entity/P1630, it is numbered P5 in my case;
In LocalSettings.php, set $wgWBRepoSettings['formatterUrlProperty'] = 'P5';;
Run the maintenance script php extensions/Wikibase/repo/maintenance/rebuildPropertyInfo.php --rebuild-all --force;
Then your properties can declare some P5 with as the value the URL of the destination, with $1 in the URL as a placeholder with the external identifier.

I reproduced this bug today with this request with Firefox, and someone I know reproduced it today and yesterday on his computer with different queries. Yesterday he was able to pass over this bug by changing a comment (to re-compute the query).
