[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T139583: [Story] "citation needed" for Wikidata
Thryduulf added a comment. [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T105623: [Task] Investigate quantification of quantity precision (+/- 1 or +/- 0.5)
Thryduulf added a comment. https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q5089194=revision=325544717=314121367 This is another example of how assuming a precision is incorrect - the value given in the source is 135,000,000 gallons without specifying the level of precision. It is very unlikely to be either ±0 or ±1 gallon (although not impossible) however how many significant figures are there? - anywhere from 3 to 9 is possible and, without further investigation, unknowable. [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T75908: Avoid lost link for deleting pages which is later restored
Thryduulf added a comment. I think one possible way of doing this would be to store in the local wiki page metadata the associated Wikidata ID. The existence of this could be used as a trigger to display the dialog suggested by Magioladitis above. If it has been associated with more than one data item in the past, it could list all or only the most recent. If the Wikidata item has been linked to something else on the same wiki in the meanwhile, then I think something should be promtped at the Wikidata end (note to whoever next edits the entry? post on the item talk page? entry in a list?) for a WD contributor to review which is the better link. I think this should be either reworded or closed. This is still causing data loss, just for those who use the shown data rather than those who use the API stored value so the title still seems correct to me. [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T95425: [Bug] Quantity formatter rounding causes significant data loss
Thryduulf added a subscriber: Thryduulf. Thryduulf added a comment. This is still causing incorrect data to be displayed. I've entered a value of 350±150 because the source gives a range of 200-500. However this is displayed as 400±200 which gives a range of 200-600 which is incorrect and misleading. I don't see why there is any need or justification for displaying the output differently to the stored value - even more so when the difference is so significant (why is there ever need to round to the nearest 100 for values of this magnitude? The nearest 10 would be understandable (but still wrong) but removing an order of magnitude more precision than that is baffling).
