[Wikidata-l] Deadlines - phases #1-3
I suppose Wikidata will be enabled on the Wikipedias when the dependancies of bug 38975 [1] are fixed and the Wikibase Client Wikibase Lib extensions are installed on the wikipedias. The dependancies of bug 38975 are bug 38542 [2] and bug 41345 [3]. On bug 38542 db asked if gerrit change 31657 [4] has fixed the problem. At least I can´t repreduce the bug on the demo repo, with the first revision of item Q5786.[5] [1] https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38975 [2] https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38542 [3] https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41345 [4] https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/31657/ [5] http://wikidata-test-repo.wikimedia.de/w/index.php?title=Q5786oldid=169681setlang=en - Original Message - From: denny.vrande...@wikimedia.de Sent: 11/27/12 04:56 PM To: Discussion list for the Wikidata project. Subject: Re: [Wikidata-l] Deadlines - phases #1-3 As said, this is correct with regard to deployment. We will not, though, halt developing phase 2 until phase 1 is fully deployed. So development of phase 1 is finished, its deployment is not yet. And we cannot promise or predict when deployment of phase 1 will be completely finished. Development of phase 2, in the meanwhile, is continuing. I hope that clears it up. Re: [Wikidata-l] thoughts about a plan for enabling interlanguage linking
Hi, Some inline comments. - Original Message - From: Amir E. Aharoni Sent: 08/12/12 11:56 AM To: wikidata-l Subject: [Wikidata-l] thoughts about a plan for enabling interlanguage linking Hi, I'm not sure that it was discussed already. If it was discussed, please point me there. I read the Technical proposal and the translatable pages on Meta and couldn't find it there. Is there any concrete plan to start the migration of the current interlanguage links to Wikidata storage? For example: * The interwiki bots' will definitely have to be modified for the Wikidata age. Did anybody start a conversation with the operators of these bots? MerlIwBot is the only bot that is compatible with Wikidata. Lydia has started a conversation with the operators of the bots that have volunteered to transit interwiki links to Wikidata. * How will interwiki conflicts be handled? Judging by earlier discussions, I suppose that Wikidata will just let pages with conflicts work as they always did, but this is an important issue that should be answered in the FAQ.[1] Correct. This issue was discussed at: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikidata/Development/Storyboard_for_linking_Wikipedia_articles_v0.1 * How will bots identify pages that use Wikidata? Is this http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:MerlIwBot/WikiData what you are looking for? I am going to leave this question mostly unanswered for others. This might be related to what you are talking about. Maybe the answer to all of the above questions is: The Wikidata developers intentionally want to leave these things to the editors community. If it is, then this is fine. It is even hinted in the Technical proposal. But it should be written more explicitly, so that the communities will actually start to work on that. Again, if somebody already started it, please point me there. Thank you! Re: [Wikidata-l] Impact of Wikidata phase I
Language links are commented out to stop bots from consistently adding the same link, while also preventing it to appear under In other languages in the sidebar. This is essentially an inproper way for those who only want to prevent the bots from re-adding a link on one page, while not caring about pages with the same content in other languages. This method is mentioned in the following section on an en.wikipedia help page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Interlanguage_links#Bots_and_links_to_and_from_a_section - Original Message - From: denny.vrande...@wikimedia.de Sent: 06/25/12 02:39 PM To: Discussion list for the Wikidata project.
