 Hi *Leigh*,

You're right -- I should have posted a notification about the SPAM and
action taken -- sorry about that. An overloaded inbox taking its toll
:-(.In line with WikiEducator's commitment to freedom of speech -- a
little info for members of our list:

- WE doesn't moderate any posts
- The WE list uses an open registration -- anyone can join.

The downside is that on very rare occasions inappropriate content can slip
onto the list. Over the last two years we've only had two instances. That
said, as our community grows the risk for SPAM increases. The best way to
manage this, in my opinion is for the community to help out. (Implementing
a moderation function would not sit well with the values of our community.)

At the moment, including myself we only have two group managers on the WE
mailing list with the rights to delete SPAM. WE runs 24/7 --- and obviously
I wouldn't be able to delete any SPAM while sleeping.

Are there any volunteers on the list who would like to put up their hand to
help out should a SPAM message slip through?

 Cheers
 Wayne

[WikiEducator] Re: Help with nav template

2008-06-21 Thread Leigh Blackall
That;s prefect, thanks again James.

Chris - your activity sheet looks similar. Mine are based on a pretty
standard teacher handout format:

Objectives
Activity
Resources

The difficult thing I am finding is knowing when to stop. For example - a
detailed screen dumped demo does not fit in this page. It would be better to
create the screen demo separately, and then say in the activity to look at
the screen demo and then come back. But this creates another layer of
complexity, so at times I am trying to fit it in one. There are some
examples in teh Blogging handbook already. Any suggestions on how to
simplify the structure without compromising the reusability would be great.

Randy,

I was really hoping for someone with some film / storyboarding

[WikiEducator] Re: How wikieducator keep the cultural identity of the students

2008-06-21 Thread Steve Foerster

To expand on Randy's point, WikiEducator doesn't actually do anything
independently of those who contribute to it; it is simply the sum of
its contributions. The strength of an open system like WE is that
those who are concerned about maintaining cultural diversity in
educational materials are free to make contributions that further
those ideals. In other words, if those materials appear on WE (or
another repository), then the issue really was important to people.
And if not, well, then it really wasn't important. After all, actions
speak louder than words.

That's not to say there aren't good examples. Educators in India
could have used materials from MIT or the Open University or other
Western materials, but they're creating their own eGyankosh repository
instead http://www.egyankosh.ac.in/. Thus, when they talk about
wanting their own materials, they clearly mean it.

Another example would be the various curricula that the VUSSC project
is building here on WE. It takes into account the unique economic
situations that those in small island states face, things that would
not be covered in currricula developed for those in large countries.

That includes the materials necessary for Master's level degrees.

Maybe we could ask Shaggy whether he could adapt/extend the same sort of
search software as his Flickr CC for Wikied?

with tags not only for themes but also by artist and type of work
 (photograph, etching, video, etc...)
Still owe you material on blogging - it's on a CD I backed up and cannot
 find :-( it'll come

Oh yes!! That looks perfect Chris. I reckon it would save us about 2 minutes
per image + hours of showing people how to search for and upload free
images. PLEASE WE Admin.. add this extension

I dont let the test user upload stuff so you cant really go through the
whole process but its pretty nice.
