Re: [WikiEducator] Re: [WE Council] Congratulations Dr. Sanjaya!
Congratulations Dr. Sanjaya, It is a source of joy and inspiration when educators who share the WE values get into higher policy making institutions. Their progressive outlook to OER will help in convincing other leaders at the top who are ignorant or not concerned about the great benefits OER can bring to global education especially to the developing nations. [WikiEducator] Respecting the public domain -- New feature to convey your intentions
Hi Everyone, Since the inception of the WikiEducator project we have subscribed to the values of free cultural works licensing and this has been adopted as a matter of policy. WE respect all works in the public domain and the rights and intentions of authors to dedicate their creative works to the public domain with worldwide application. We strongly encourage all WikiEducators to respect the intentions of original authors who dedicate their work to the public domain, by retaining the public domain attribution for these works. With thanks and appreciation to Jim Tittsler, the OER Foundation has now implemented an easier and improved way to signal public domain pages in WikiEducator. Now any page in the wiki using the [[Category:Public Domain]] should now display a Public Domain icon and link to the relevant page providing details on how WikiEducator manages works in the Public Domain. It is also now possible to use the Public Domain Deed (CC0) from Creative Commons for dedicating new works to the public domain by adding [[Category:CC0]] to the respective pages. You will find more information here: http://wikieducator.org/WikiEducator:Public_Domain The same feature can be used for Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) pages by adding [[Category:CC-BY]]. This will remove the display of the default CC-BY-SA icon and link to the respective license deed. In the absence of adding these Categories, WikiEducator assumes the default CC-BY-SA license agreed by users when posting their edits. The following page has been updated to reflect these improvements: http://wikieducator.org/WikiEducator:Copyrights WE are proud to support the freedoms of users to use free content licenses and public domain declarations. Re: [WE Teacher Collaboration] Re: [WikiEducator] Respecting the public domain -- New feature to convey your intentions
Hi thank Anil :-) Not really a license reform -- we've always accepted free cultural works approved content. Just that our implementation in showing license choices and public domain dedications has improved. But the WikiEducator family welcomes the loud applause. Thanks!
