[WikiEducator] Re: WikEd code updated

2008-10-08 Thread Missan

Dear Erik,
I have just observed problem in diferent Web browser. For example the
page http://www.wikieducator.org/Workshop_Lessons looks absolutely
fine in IE, but in Opera, the content of the table shows centred. I do
not know what is the problem? Can you check this and advise?

I've updated WikiEducator in all languages to the latest MediaWiki and
LiquidThreads code. Please report anything odd, i.e. things that used
to work that now seem to be broken. I didn't touch the PDF or Kaltura
code, but both seem to still work.

 A couple of notable changes:

 * I've enabled support for embedding media from Wikimedia Commons. Any
file from commons.wikimedia.org should be embeddable as if it was
uploaded directly to wikieducator.org. See the example photo in my
 sandbox:http://wikieducator.org/User:Eloquence/Sandbox- this photograph is
loaded straight from Commons, but it's properly thumbnailed, and if
you click the photo, it'll show you all the metadata from Commons.

 * Some annoying LiquidThreads discussion bugs should be fixed.
Notably, headers are back, and LQT should properly display the full
thread, rather than just the starting comment, when showing you new
messages. Comments in LQT should now also be summarized in a more
readable format in the Recent Changes list - feedback welcome. E-mail
 support is in the works.

[WikiEducator] Re: Hewlett Foundation award WikiEducator $100 000

2007-10-26 Thread Missan

This is definitely a news to be celebrated with Way(i)ne!!!
I think, it will provide a great boost to learning content development
in the Commonwealth. Though training 2500 educators is a huge task. It
is possible by identifying the right institutions, and committed
individuals. So, it is important to identify institutions that commit
to OER, and also provide release time for teachers to develop content
for WikiEducator as part of their own professional development. Big
dreams in deed for a big cause...

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation award WikiEducator $10 to
build MediaWiki Educator skills for at least 2500 educators in 53
 countries under our Learning4Content initiative:

 http://www.wikieducator.org/Metawikieducator/Learning4Content/Hewlett...

The COL will also be investing an additional $6 for this project.

The WikiEducator family is proud of this achievement because it is our
first funding proposal developed as free content on WikiEducator.

The project will widen the skills base among educators to contribute
to free content projects like WikiEducator and Wikipedia.

I think I should have a glass of red wine to celebrate. I hope
WIkiEducators all over the world will do the same!

 Cheers
 Wayne
