In June two of my colleagues - Subhash Kumar and Shalu Mahajan had

because one of the participants then was from Teerthankar University.

 Looking for support,

There's some interesting data in the report, for example:

- WikiEducator has recorded a higher content per user production rate

- 43% of the educators enrolled for a Learning4Content workshop have
achieved a wiki certification. 62% of these educators have acquired the

I love this healthy addiction to WikiEducator,

Let me explain this:
Our body is a complex laboratory that works perfectly; even emotions such as
sadness, boredom or the losses are also needed to promote changes in our
behavior. When we reach a target, several drugs are released by glands in
our body, producing in us a feeling of pleasure. Drugs such as endorphins
and others are fired by our glandular system into the bloodstream, producing
healthy addiction. Our body needs to feel that chemistry, is very good and
healthy that this runs in our body chemistry. Collaborating, teaching,
learning in WikiEducator natural produce such drugs in my body and leads me
to repeat those behaviors that successful drive me to achieve my goals.

  Hi everyone,

I've just updated our latest statistics for the Learning4Content
 initiative. WikiEducator is making history.

WE have launched and implemented (to the best of my knowledge) the largest
wiki training project for educators in the world!

2360 participants have registered for 73 L4C workshops since January 2008.
If you do the mental math this averages out at 1.14 workshops per week! WE
have launched 23 Online workshops and 50 Face-to-face workshops in 30
different countries, including: Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Botswana,
Canada, Cameroon, Israel, India, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Kenya, Kingdom of
Tonga, Lesotho, Malaysia, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Pakistan,
Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Saint Kitts Nevis, Seychelles, Solomon Islands,
Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda and Zambia.

On a personal note -- I concede that I did have a few sleepless nights
wondering whether we would be able to achieve our ambitious target of 2500
educators by the end of round 1 of the funding for this project ;-). How
could I doubt the open community model?

WE have now achieved 94% of our target of 2500 educators.

WE still have a few workshops to go before 30 June 2009 under round 1 of
the L4C project. Please invite your friends and colleagues to sign up for
one of the remaining online L4C workshops:

 http://www.wikieducator.org/Learning4Content/Registration

Spread the word at your organisations, post invitations on your discussion
lists and your blogs. Let's show the world how we can exceed our targets.

A BIG thank you to the WikiEducator community and all the amazing L4C
facilitators around the world who have turned this dream into reality. When
we started L4C, there were only 3 facilitators. Our list of L4C facilitators
is now nearing 30 with many L4C graduates becoming trainers in their own
right. You've got to love the scalability of the open model :-).

I'm working on a funding proposal to continue with work with L4C capacity
building around the world. I'm also seeking to secure funding to assist
with the development and implementation of an L4C Intermediate level course.
Given the overwhelming success of L4C -- I'm confident that we will find
additional funding to widen access to capacity building in OER using the
wiki model. Watch this space :-).

 Cheers
 Wayne

I've just remembered a very serious omission in my post about L4C
statistics -- and that is my thanks to Wiki Patricia who meticulously
keeps track of our all our statistics for the L4C project -- This is a
huge task given the global scale of this project and we wouldn't have
been able to achieve half of what we have without Patricia's tireless
administration behind the scenes -- not too mention her skills as online
facilitator as well.

I know that she's blushing as I am posting this email because she

On behalf of the community --- BIG thanks Patricia.

[WikiEducator] Re: L4C for students

2008-09-17 Thread Wayne
Hi Peter,

Not too mention the educational value of community service. I have
children in both elementary and high school here in BC and at both
levels there are community service hours built into the curriculum.
Linking student-generated content with community service is a great way
to combine academic components of the curriculum with learning how to
give. Wouldn't it be amazing if schools recognised free content
generation as official community service hours?

This is a great idea -- lets see how the community responds and lets
start work on developing a dedicated node in WE for student-content
initiatives. Perhaps we can include a few example approaches or a
toolkit to help teachers get started in building this capability.

Great suggestion!

Cheers

 This is what I see as the highlights from the paper;
 - Student-generated content has also long been an integral part of the
 educational process.
 - the role of student-generated content is highly marginalized in
 contemporary educational practice.
 - “student engagement” has become an indicator of educational quality.
 - there is a need and interest for learning strategies which promote
 student engagement.
 - student products can contribute value as a lasting product in
several ways - to future students (e.g. by creating learning
 resources).
 - apparently is that there are relatively few examples to be found. If
student-generated content engages students, improves learning, creates
products of lasting value, and produces other positive educational
outcomes, why is this the case?
 - One likely reason is that the expanded use of student-generated
content runs counter to traditional educational practice.
 - Nevertheless, expanding the use of student-generated content in
online education (and all education) may be an idea whose time has
 finally come.
