An additional note regarding the 747 bus ticket.

In fact the $10 ticket is the 1-day ticket, which is valid for unlimited travel 
for 24 hours from the validation. If you are not leaving immediately after 
Wikimania, it might be interesting for you to buy it this evening or tomorrow 
morning, visit the city with it during the day, and take the bus with the same 
ticket after it. You can buy it in any ticket booth (coins, notes or credit 
cards accepted).

After you leave the hotel, walk left on Boulevard René-Lévesque O until Rue 
Peel, you will find a square there, in the bus stop you take the 747 (Aéroport 
Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau). It costs $10 (you can buy the ticket in the bus, but 
only in coins or pay in the totems in the street where you can pay you

Hi Katie,

The 747 bus is one option. If you're departing from the Sheraton, there's a
bus stop nearby at the René-Lévesque / de la Montagne intersection. You can
pay the $10 CAD fare with coins, or purchase a fare from the nearby
Stationnement de Montréal (parking) pay station (I forget its exact
location). If you get the pass from the parkingpay station, you give the
bus driver the pass and they'll give you a "real" bus pass in return.

The only relevant question, for Malpensa, is whether buses stop at 
terminal 1 or 2: probably it's terminal 1 only, but it's indeed not 
written on the wiki AFAICT. Other than that, in Linate/Orio/MXP1 the 
directions are going to be pretty much "take the only exit and look in 
the only possible direction". After 1000 years of ever-increasing soil 
consumption, Italy doesn't have the luxury of options. ;-)

Anika, thanks for that. I think you’re right that all tickets have the June
21, 9am -> June 27, 1130pm time span on them.

That messes up some travel management systems, like Tripit, that use the
field for filling in calendars and itineraries, which is where I first
noticed the problem. As long as the reservation in the “Type” field is
accurate, I think it should be fine.

Thanks to the Esino team for re-opening the bus transfers.

However, after purchasing a ticket, there seems to be a discrepancy.

I purchased a June 23, 11am MXP->Esino ticket. One part says 9am, the other
part says 11am. Perhaps in copying/pasting info, something was not done
correctly? Please advise.

Thank you. I understand that. But we have been told that buses would

I don't believe I was aware of that offer, until the 6th June, when I
posted about it to this list; and again on 9th June (my posts being
unanswered until today).

I have been asking about that since the 6th June (see above) and more
than once today. the responses have, as already explained, been
contradictory. I certainly do not "want to wait" any longer - as I
said earlier, I need to have this tied up soon.

Furthermore, I have only seen references to booking /return/ tickets.
My need is, as stated previously, only in one direction, on the 27th.
Will that be possible?

I'm not finding it straightforward; see my comments made today about
lack of clarity regarding buses from Varenna-Esino-Perledo station to
Esino Lario (and the reverse), and the claim that prior booking for
these is required. This also remains unresolved.

So to clarify as best I can again (I'm really not trying add to the
confusion only to clarify):  as a partial scholarship recipient you were
responsible for your travel arrangements.   If you didn't buy a ticket on
Eventbrite that the conference organizers offered for the direct shuttle
(the offer was on the registration page but is no longer operable), then I
think you might want to wait to hear from the conference organizers about
whether or not there will be extra seats available on those shuttles for
people who want to pay/arrange now or when they get there.

If you end up not being able to obtain a ride on the direct shuttle, it's
really pretty straightforward to do the transport from the airports to
Esino Lario via public transportation.

I've been relying on this (being a scholarship recipient). However I just
found out that supposedly no bus departs on the 22nd, which is when my

Hi Andy,

I added that statement to the busses page, based on an earlier email from
Iolanda where she indeed stated that reservations were required. I
understand now that reservations still are required, but can only be made
once in Varenna - perhaps that explains the ambiguity?

But I have to admit, it isn't entirely clear to me either...

How do we know which bus our seat is allocated on? Or is it "first

I have just seen that page for the first time, It says:

   Watch out! You need to buy a ticket in advance with the organisers
   to be on one of these buses!

This seems to contradict:

1. busses from the airports to Esino (and viceversa). All people with a WMF 
scholarship, all WMF staff and all people who bought their airport transport 
have a seat on the busses. we made this timetable to accommodate the arrivals

Marta is preparing with Stuart Prior (who has the access) a registration system 
on eventbrite to buy the remaining seats. It will be available in a short time 
(meanwhile please have a look at the available times)
We might add another bus on Monday if needed to make sure everyone can get home.
Please note that we are managing as volunteers this service for your comfort, 
it is very very complicated and busses do not bloom in the grass but need to be 
reserved, organized and they cost 500 euro each - last minute services is 
impossible. We do our best to meet you needs but we will not be able to 
accommodate everyone’s preference. Please also consider to take and pay a taxi 
or urber if you have specific requests in particular from the airports to Esino.

I guess a lot of people who arrive early will be doing that. Will the team
also send an email to all participants that for the bus from Varenna to
Esino Lario, they need to book in advance (if I understood that well). That
might very well be the bottle neck in the journey - the rest looks fine
indeed with alternative options.

OK, I was originally assuming that the tickets would only be required for
the buses from the airport, and that the buses from Varenna would be the
'regular buses' that go there always. I now understand that the schedule
you posted is for private buses, and require advance booking.

Is this regular bus service schedule

on leccotransporti.it up to date and valid? It gives some very similar
times as the buses you mention.

My problem is that I'll be arriving from Lugano without fixed schedule, so
I don't know exactly which bus I'll be able to get. But I'll try to
schedule my trip accordingly..

The busses are meant for people who requested transport (eventbrite, 
scholarships and Wikimedia Foundation staff). If you did not requested direct 
transport, you can still buy a seat. we will post the remaining available seats 
on eventbrite you can buy (by Monday - i'll send you a notification here). 

When there is written taxi, it is because we have less than 4 requests.

Ah, I think I understand the table now. I understood the first table to be
a train table somehow - sorry for the confusion! So buses will only be once
every 1,5 hour/2 hour, and take 40 minutes from Varenna to Esino Lario?
Lets hope not to miss it then! :)

Think I arrive in terminal 1 at the airport.  If you can give somewhere
very specific to meet (specific information desk, cafe, ...), that would
help a lot to avoid getting confused when arriving.

arranged and paid for by the WMF  (Staff, Board members, Full Scholarship
recipients):

We are presently checking to make sure everyone is registered.   After that
I will be sending information to everyone about arranging transportation
between the airports and Esino Lario (as well as other options for people
who can't use the direct shuttle.)  You do not have to register on the
Wikimania '16 conference wiki for the shuttle.

we plan to have direct busses (if there are reservations) to Esino Lario on 
Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd
* from Milano Malpensa at 11am, 3 pm and 9pm
* from Linate at 3pm
* from Orio al serio at 7pm

The direct return busses will be on Monday:
* To Milano Malpensa at 5am (estimated arrival at 7.30am), 9am (estimated 
arrival at 11.30am) and 2pm (estimated arrival at 4.30pm)
* To Milan at 9am (arrival at 11).
On Sunday there is too much traffic and it is much better to use the train from 
Varenna to Milano Centrale and then trans/public busses to the airports.

accomodate. We can not have busses every 2 hours otherwise the cost for a one
