[Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Summit 2019 - Registration closes in one month!

2018-11-19 Thread Michelle Poltier
Dear Wikimedians,

Thanks to those of you who have already registered for the Wikimedia
Summit 2019 – we are very excited to host the event from March 29 to
March 31 2019 in Berlin!

== Registration information ==
You have not registered yet? Your affiliation is eligible [1] to
attend the event and you have been selected to represent your
affiliation in Berlin? Then please be kindly reminded to register by
Monday, December 17, 2018. To register for the Wikimedia Summit,
please find the link to the registration form below. [2]

== Visa information ==
Please visit the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs in
Berlin [3] to find out whether you need a visa for travelling to
Germany. We strongly advise all those of you who need a visa to
register by November 19, 2018. We would like to support you as best as
possible with your visa! As visa formalities can be long and
time-consuming, registering by November 19 will not only allow us to
prepare all documents needed for the visa application in a timely
manner, but starting with the application at an early stage can
cushion unforseen long processing times or problems.

Further information on the visa process and assistance can be found on Meta. [4]

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Michelle

[Wikimedia-l] Afrocine: The Months of African Cinema Continues.....

2018-11-19 Thread Sam Oyeyele
Greetings!

Thank you very much to those who have signed up to participate in the Months of
African
Cinema
global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

We are moving towards the conclusion of the contest and a lot have been
achieved already! We have been able to get over about 300 articles created in
over eight (8) languages! The figures soars to up to a thousand, if Wikidata
entries are included. Furthermore, there have been about 6 in-person gatherings
of Wikipedians in different countries across the world to create articles about
African(a) cinema!

We are very excited about what has been achieved so far, but your contributions
are still needed to further exceed all expectations! Let’s create more articles
before the end of this contest, which is this November!!!

  * Article suggestions can be found
here.
You can also add to this list.
  * Some notable reliable sources for African cinema can be found
here.
 Again, this list needs expansion.
  * Interested in Wikidata translation? check out the Occupation
Drive,
which is being led by Wiki Loves Women, in support of the contest and the
project!
  * Please remember to list articles you have created or improved in the
Article
Achievements
section of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked.

Thank you once again for being part of this global event!

Kindly,

Sam Oyeyele.

[Wikimedia-l] Wikimédia France new Board

2018-11-19 Thread Nadine Le Lirzin
Hi all,

*Bonjour à tous et à toutes,*

Last week, Wikimédia France elected its new board. It is my honor and my
pleasure to communicate members and roles of this board to the movement [1].

All the three outgoing candidates were re-elected. Five people are joining
for the first time the board of WMFr, including a former employee and a
former intern ("service civique").

Three members of the previous Board left us:

Florence Raymond, elected for two years in 2017, resigned in September
2018; and two administrators, whose terms were coming to an end, decided
not to re-apply:

  • Samuel Le Goff, who joined the Board in 2014, before assuming Vice
Presidency in 2016, then Presidency from June to September 2017;

• Charlotte Matoussowsky, elected in 2017, who has been our Vice
President.

We thank them for the time they have spent in serving our Chapter and the
whole movement, knowing they keep on serving by other ways, and wishing
them the best for their present and future projets.

During this general meeting, we were also proposing new bylaws. Written
with the help of associations governance experts, their main goal is to
improve democracy and transparency in the association structure.

There was a large consensus in favor of the new bylaws. Unfortunately the
quorum has not been reached (25 % of members must be physically present at
the general meeting to change the bylaws, we were rather around 20 %).

Per our currently still standing bylaws, we will have to organize another
general meeting (without quorum) in 2018 or during the first semester of
2019.

Last but not least, the 21st edition of the general meeting was for the
first time available in French Sign Language.

New board composition:

– Pierre-Yves Beaudouin, *chair*

– Willie Robert, *vice-chair*

– Marin Dubroca-Voisin, *treasurer*

– Nadine Le Lirzin, *secretary*

– Benoît Deshayes

– Julien Gardet

– Roger Gotlib

– Pierre-Selim Huard

– Pierre-Antoine Le Page

– Lucas Lévêque

– Hélène Masson

– Pascal Radigue

A few more details about us on our website [2].

Friendly to all,

Nadine Le Lirzin
