[Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Serbia board members

2019-12-09 Thread Filip Maljkovic
Hello everyone,

Wikimedia Serbia held its General Assembly last night, when I formally
stepped down as the president of the chapter, after being in that
position for 6 years. Miroslav Loci (aka Mickey Mystique) was
unanimously elected as the new president of Wikimedia Serbia.

Marko Adam stepped down as a board member and Teodora Lukić is the newly
elected board member. Therefore, the board of Wikimedia Serbia now
consists of the following people:

1. Miroslav Loci - president
2. Đorđe Stakić - vice-president
3. Filip Maljković
4. Miljan Simonović
5. Bojana Satarić
6. Teodora Lukić

It has been a privilege to serve as the president of Wikimedia Serbia
and I'm certain that it will remain a stable and regionally strong
chapter in the following years.

Cheers,
Filip Maljković

[Wikimedia-l] Join Wikipedia & Education User Group

2018-10-29 Thread Filip Maljkovic
Hi everyone,

Wikipeda & Education User Group [1] was formally approved recently and
we have started with our work! We want to help facilitate, support, and
advocate for educational work in the Wikimedia community and if you want
to support us in that, please join our user group by filling in a simple
form. [2]

We from the group's board are still in the process of setting things up
for the user group, but we want as many people as possible joining us,
especially people that believe that Wikimedia belongs in education,
because there's a lot of education things to do in our movement.

Also, don't let the user group's name fool you: we support all Wikimedia
projects and all Wikimedians and Wikimedia friends are welcome! :)

Cheers,
Filip Maljković

Oh dear, very sad news indeed :(

I remember meeting him at Wikimania 2006, and on many more subsequent
Wikimanias. He was always nice and thoughtful.

My condolences to his family.

[Wikimedia-l] Wikimania 2017

2015-09-30 Thread Filip Maljkovic

Hello everyone,

I noticed on [1] that we're a bit behind schedule when it comes to
Wikimania 2017.

The Wikimania 2017 jury call for volunteers should have gone in August,
but I don't think one was sent (or at least I missed it). September 2015
is the time when jury selection should be announced (which can hardly be
done if there was no public call for jury members), and also the bidding
is supposed to open. I see two unofficial bids so far: Bali and Perth.
The former is filled with "Lorem ipsum" text and the latter is just
plain empty.

Did we forget about Wikimania 2017? Do we still want it? Who is in
charge of this process? Is this timeline accurate (since the only edit
on that page was done by a non-WMF person; however, the process
corresponds to the one from 2014 in terms of the timeline)? Is there an
underlying problem that is causing bidding fatigue (since there are no
valid bids so far)? Is it too early to go into this process altogether
(and am I just being too dramatic)?

about this. We haven't forgotton about 2017!

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Fwd: [Chapters] Wikimedia Serbia Executive Director

Great news! Congratulations!

I hope WMRS could tell us how was the experience and difficulties of
choosing a new ED. Such kind of storytelling might be the basis for future
best practices on getting staff.

Thanks! :)

Well, to me (someone who was involved in the process from the get-go and
through the entire thing), the greatest difficulty was the sheer amount
of submissions -- 224.

So, our process was as follows: we announced the job opening on two
relevant sites and accepted submissions during the course of 3 weeks.
After reviewing all the CVs, the committee (originally consisting of 3
persons) members gave their ternary grades (+, -, or ?) for each
candidate. Those with not enough positive votes weren't considered
anymore, but those with any sort of significant support were discussed
at a long meeting, where we finally made a list of people who would be
invited in the first round of interviews.

Around 30 people participated in the first round, and that was spread
throughout 3 days (about 12 hours in total, so about 20 minutes per
candidate). After that, we made a shortlist for the second round and
that included 6 best candidates. We were quite strict with some
criteria, but we had to be in order to narrow things down significantly.

The second round was held during the course of one afternoon, and the
committee was broadened by a few board members. The second round
consisted of a short test (literacy and general knowledge) and a half
hour interview, that was broader in scope than the first one: we gave
each of the candidates one of the project proposals we got from our
volunteers for the Annual Grant 2015, so the candidates had to comment
them and try to see how the project fit in our mission, what should be
changed etc.

After the interviews, we had some deliberations that lasted longer than
anticipated, but after about a week, one candidate bubbled up and we
selected him -- Ivan.

That's the process in short (there were some other peculiarities, but
they aren't quite relevant for this venue).

Cheers,
Filip

[Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Serbia ED

2014-08-04 Thread Filip Maljkovic

Dear friends,

We would like to inform you that Wikimedia Serbia board of trustees and
Wikimedia Serbia Executive Director, Mile Kiš, have mutually decided to
part ways and to end Mile's employment at the position of ED. Mile will
remain Wikimedia Serbia ED until September 1.

We would like to thank Mile for many years of cooperation and all the
effort that he put into developing Wikimedia Serbia and its projects.
His work was crucial in the initial steps of professionalization of
Wikimedia Serbia. We wish him the best of luck in his future
professional and personal endeavors.

We plan to post a job opening soon, so that we could find a new ED, but
in the meantime, that job will be carried out by Ivana Madžarević,
Project and Community Manager of Wikimedia Serbia.

On behalf of Wikimedia Serbia Board,
Filip Maljković
President of Wikimedia Serbia

[Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia Serbia office

2012-11-20 Thread Filip Maljkovic

Hello everyone,

I'm writing to inform you that Wikimedia Serbia has opened an office in
Belgrade starting November 1, thanks to the grant by WMF [1]. That means
that we have our first employee, which is very exciting for us, but also
brings a lot of responsibilities.

So, the office is located in Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra (King Alexander
Boulevard) 20, which is in the city center, on the fifth floor, with a
view on the National Assembly building, the main post office building,
church of Saint Mark and Trg Nikole Pašića, one of the two central
squares. Anyone who's been to Belgrade can attest that this is one of
the most central and most beautiful parts of the city. :)

The office space is about 95 square meters and we're still in the
process of buying furniture and equipment, but our conference room is
pretty much set. We'll use the antechamber (which is quite large by
itself) to display the 15 finalist photos from the WLM contest 2012
(we've just had a ceremony of announcing winners and exhibiting them in
a local gallery).

Our employee is Mile Kiš, our General Secretary. He's been a tremendous
help for us in the past years and he's been doing more than full time
work for us as a volunteer, so I'm especially glad that he's going to be
able to help us as an employee, as well as be able to work on his
personal professionalization.
