Re: [Wikimedia-l] Survey about the Foundation's Mission

2019-01-16 Thread Kevin Payravi
I've heard confusion from a couple folks and want to make sure it's clear
here that this survey is coming from you as an individual, Jim, and has no
origination or coordination with the Foundation - correct?

Thanks,

[Wikimedia-l] Ohio Wikimedians User Group - Annual Report, July 2017 - July 2018

2018-10-28 Thread Kevin Payravi
Hello,

On behalf of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group, I'm pleased to present our
annual report, covering the period from July 2017 - July 2018 (yes, this
report is a bit late :) ).

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Ohio_Wikimedians_User_Group/Reports/2017-18

Most of our activities in that time period were workshops and edit-a-thons
hosted by our Ohio State University student organization, Wikipedia
Connection. Otherwise, a lot of time was being spent preparing for
WikiConference North America 2018 - which just took place in Columbus,
Ohio, Oct 18-21 (we're pleased to say it went very well! - but that's for a
report another day).

Thank you,
Kevin Payravi

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Apple Pay donations

2016-11-16 Thread Kevin Payravi
Hi Rupert,

The 30% you're referring to is the cut Apple takes for in-app purchases.
Apple Pay is a different platform; neither consumer, merchant, or in this
case, donor and receiver, are charged a fee.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Decentralised Wikipedia

2016-01-04 Thread Kevin Payravi
Welcome to the list, Erik! This is my first post, too.

I don't think the lack of funding for server maintenance is of concern at
all, let alone a severe threat. The 2015-16 plan
<https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/2015-2016_Annual_Plan> calls for $65
million in spending, with 40% going towards engineering (which in addition
to the servers includes testing, improvements, updates, API work, and all
that jazz). That leaves 60% going towards all the other stuff (management,
legal, grants, HR, communications, etc.). Keeping the servers alive isn't a
severe threat. The threat is keeping the Foundation and community healthy
and active, and spending the money right to make that happen.
