Re: [Wikimedia-l] Programmatic experience in past 2 years (was: Board decisions on movement funding and approval issues)
How about the Wikivoyage association…. We have been existing for 7 years now, and applied for being recognized as a thematic organisation. Von: Pharos Gesendet: Dienstag, 11. Februar 2014 20:57 An: Wikimedia Mailing List Certainly, in the last 2 years and before, a handful of Wikimedia volunteer groups have been quite as active and organized as those currently being classified as User Groups - only the option of being recognized as User Groups did not exist for them at the time of their founding. And it is a good thing that this category exists now, but is seems wrong to penalize Wikimedia volunteer groups that *do* have a track record of effective programmatic experience, just because they were started before the User Group category was in existence. In a nutshell, the Board decided to allocate approximately the same amount of funding to the FDC for the next two years. The Board also decided that new organizations should first form as a user group and have two years of programmatic experience before being approved as a legally incorporated entity (either a chapter or thematic organization). The decisions are published in the meeting minutes here: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Minutes/2013-11-24#Movement_roles There is also a FAQ on Meta: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_roles_FAQ You will notice these decisions are published in the minutes for the November meeting. We originally took these decisions at that meeting; however as the FAQ explains it took us some time to talk to community groups, clarify our wording and write the FAQ. Hopefully the FAQ will answer many of your questions about these decisions; however, if there are other questions please do ask them, here or on the meta talk page. Re: [Wikimedia-l] Wikivoyage logo
Just a statement besides all the other issues. I am quite happy about the new vote. I did not like the logo because its very similar to the old Wikitravel-Logo. Re: [Wikimedia-l] Info: Wikimedia Conference feedback - Grazie mille!
A absolutely agree... Sitting in the train from Berlin to Cottbus now. Thanks to evrybody especially to the WMIT Team for doing a great Job. See you all... I'd like to add my thanks, to Wikimedia Italia for the great job they did organising their first Wikimedia conference, to everyone who spoke or presented, to the facilitators (whose facilitation extended to trying to find a bar with space to seat 20 Wikimedians in the pouring rain last night*), and to everyone who took part. It was lovely to meet so many of you. Thanks also to the Foundation board for holding a boring meeting with no surprises. We can all see the team has put in a huge amount of effort and creativity into the conference. I loved visiting Milan for the first time, and being hosted in such a lovely venue and hotel (I can recommend eating out in Milan, all the food I have had here has been excellent). I look forward to being invited again :-D I'm in the feedback session right now, and I think there are excellent learning points to make to make life easier for our next host. Grazie mille! Re: [Wikimedia-l] How gay friendly is Wikimedia and where do LGBT Wikimedians hang out?
Interesting Topic. The Wikivoyage association’s chairman is gay as well. So he will have an eye on the diversity on WV. He (me) started the travel Topic “gaytravel” and created a small article about gay travel in Cambodia already (http://de.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Thema:Schwul-Lesbisches_Reisen_in_Kambodscha). I hope more information will find their way into our articles soon. Besides we tag bars ans Hotels as gayfriendly on de: New ideas are always welcome. From a few chats over tea at the GLAMwiki conference last weekend, I realised that most folks with an interest in LGBT matters were either unaware that anything had changed in the last year, or just had not got around to finding out where to go for more information (apart from asking me). I'm hoping that the mailing list can be used for a variety of purposes, both as a safe space for discussing how to handle issues faced by LGBT Wikimedians, and for discussion of what people are working on, developing LGBT content on Wikimedia and so on. It'd be great if list members could post stubs they've been working on at Wikipedia, Wikinews articles, collections of photos they've uploaded to Commons and so on.
