[Wikimediaindia-l] My resignation as President and EC member of Wikimedia India chapter

2014-08-27 Thread Moksh Juneja
Dear all,

It's with a heavy heart that I would like to announce my resignation from
as the President and Executive Committee of the Wikimedia India Chapter
with immediate effect. With this, my respect for all of your contributions
to the Movement has only increased, knowing about all the sweat and blood
that goes into the creation of the community that defines the Movement as
we know it, today.

The reasons for my silence on the public list are for the same reasons that
I am quitting today. They are personal. As a Person grows, the
responsibility also grows and a point comes where the personal becomes more
important than the public.

I've had a hard time balancing work, life and my interests. In the
balancing act, it is my family that has missed out the most, especially now
that I have become a father of a 3 month old girl. The demands on me have
grown and I find that I can no longer contribute usefully to the Movement
or that someone else can do more justice to the role.

I thank you all for your love, help and support. I hope to keep
contributing to the Movement when I can.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Declining contributions across Indian Wikipedias

2014-07-29 Thread Moksh Juneja
In my suggestion/ recommendation we need to create vertical projects within
wiki-projects. It could be Indian space Environment, local destinations in
your city, etc. With this we should tap into colleges, schools and the
senior editors can look into inspiring the new and junior editors.

I am saying this in my personal capacity as a contributor to Wikipedia.

We should to do a online Edit-a-thon and probably focus on improving

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Few concerns

2013-10-04 Thread Moksh Juneja
A question came up on this list about some employer-employee relationships
within the chapter board. This is to clarify that the stated relationships
between the said persons have ended/in the process of ending with notice
being served prior to this issue being brought up (certainly not because of
this email and prior to it).

This is not to brag but to state background. I would like to further state
in particular have been extremely generous in supporting Wikipedia
activities in Mumbai for several years now, organising local events,
offering my office for meetups and official purposes, bearing expenses in
some cases, offering pro-bono services through my company and even offering
jobs to several Wikipedians.

Pranav and I were two people instrumental in ensuring the success of our
first national conference 2 years ago. This is something that is yet to be
replicated. Pranav was recently instrumental in our first victory with the
government recently, a major win for the chapter in India to have them
apply a Wikipedia complaint license to open knowledge resources for the
first time ever. Karthik has been one of the lead organisers of the
chapters biggest photo contest, our biggest success of the last financial
year. All of us have been an integral part of several chapter activities
during the last year. In the recent weeks, both Pranav and Karthik have
been involved in preparing our FDC application, spending several hours a
week, into the wee hours of the night on a regular basis apart from
juggling their professional commitments during the day. All of us have been
actively involved in the Wikimedia Conference bid.

All of us were Wikipedians first before anything else, meeting each other
through Wikipedia, having our own independent thinking which remains
unaffected and one common goal as unpaid volunteers working out of love for
the movement as a cause. We assure everyone that there is no COI that may
affect any of our functioning in the EC and performing our duties at the
chapter.

One thing we have learnt from this is that there is a need for a formal
public document that details what COI is and when disclosures need to be
made. We will push for such a document to be created within the EC. At the
same time, we humbly appeal that the community "assume good faith" towards
our efforts and help/support the chapter and movement in India. We are
working towards building greater synergies, understanding and team-building
within the EC leadership, SIG Chairs and key members of the chapter and

Hi,

Respect your views on using open platforms. At the same time, I feel strongly
we need to use platforms where there users and specially indian users.

One small correction, we have not created any Twitter account. We are tracking
and encouraging users to use #wci11 as the hashtag for conversations on
WikiConference 2011.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Global Fund raising Support to Indian Currency

2011-06-14 Thread Moksh Juneja
Similar to justgiving.com in UK, we have something closer home giveindia.org.
We can actually use their platform for commerce. Give India provides these
facilities only to charities. They keep a nominal fees for a transaction.

If everyone is ok with this. I would be happy to connect the individual to
the giveindia.org.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Event Support Request

2011-05-27 Thread Moksh Juneja
Hi I can help with the following

•Press and Media coordination
Deciding on a path for media promotion of event, giving interviews, inviting
media and taking care of them during the event

•Promotion and Advertisement
There will be a promotion budget which will have to be judiciously used for
maximum benefit - again person with experience or qualification preferred.
