Hi all,

Every year on the first of January it is Public Domain Day
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Domain_Day> on what thousands of
works of authors that died 70 years ago enter the public domain. This
results in the restoration of many works on Wikimedia Commons, but this
slowly moves larger.

Besides the works that are restored on Wikimedia Commons, we actively ask
cultural institutions to look for works of artworks that died 70 years ago
(in most countries) and to upload images of those works (on/after 1
January) on Wikimedia Commons.

This year it concerns the works of authors who died in 1946.
(Of course it is also welcome to have them upload works from authors who
died in earlier years, but that is not the focus.)

As this is an event and/or new activity, this also can be interesting for
GLAMs as they get more attention for those works on Wikipedia, but also in
the press!

It would be great if we as Wikimedia movement could ask museums if they
have works of authors who died 70 years ago, s they can release them in the
public domain.

An incomplete list of authors that died in 1946 can be found at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_in_public_domain

If you are taking this up in your country/area, please let me know so I can
collect all results.

Thanks!

Romaine
