Nope. The ability to read abbreviated medieval latin (I was in Lincoln the
other day) would be desirable however its not going to be put into the
advert.

Err provides way to much of an official role for english (for example if we
were to produce leaflets for the National Eisteddfod of Wales it would be
unreasonable to require that be translated into english) and discriminates
against Poles.

Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Language Policy

2013-04-24 Thread Richard Symonds
I think that these are sensible ideas from Robin. The draft policy is a bit
complex, and may not all be doable for an organisation of our size, but
language diversity is a laudable goal, and something we should work towards.

Speaking from a purely financial point of view, it's a wonderful thing to
put in our FDC reports and our emails to donors. It will also be much
easier to support cy-wp if there's a basic smattering of ideas in Welsh -
even if it's just the Activity Plan and Annual Report, it gives our Welsh
speakers a good idea of what's happening.

I'll talk to Daria about updating the advert, but it might be a bit late
now - big GLAMs usually require signoff on job descriptions, and the job,
although funded by us, isn't being advertised by us. We'll do what we can,
though!
