[Wikimediauk-l] Animations

2024-05-16 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi everyone

We’re delighted to share the animations
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA1TdXweNjs=PL66MRMNlLyR7rmF0ylT0fIWxE0YtWmmoA>
we’ve been working on with Ritzy Animation over the last few months. There
are four animations covering our work; the longest being an intro to
Wikimedia UK video, with three slightly shorter videos outlining our three
strategic aims of knowledge equity, information literacy, and climate and
environment.

We’re really pleased with how the animations came out. They’re now on our
website in a blog post
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2024/05/bringing-our-mission-to-life-through-animation/>
and we've shared them on social media if you’d like to help us spread the
word there.

Best wishes
Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] Women's History Month 2024

2024-02-28 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

Women's History Month starts on Friday! If there's any events/activities
that would benefit from a bit of promotion from us, please do let me know.

We've got a good showing from Scotland, with editathons at the University
of Edinburgh
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/imagine-a-gender-equal-world-help-write-women-onto-wikipedia-iwd2024-tickets-830317852047>
(long
running and much loved) and the Goethe-Institute in Glasgow
<https://www.goethe.de/ins/gb/en/ver.cfm?event_id=25433149> (new and
trilingual!)

Of course your activity doesn't have to strictly be an event, but do reach
out if you think it's worth celebrating.

Best wishes

[Wikimediauk-l] Online Safety Bill and Wikipedia

2023-04-28 Thread Katie Crampton
Dear all

After a significant amount of back and forth between Lucy, the journalist
and the Wikimedia Foundation this week, the BBC has now published an
article about the Online Safety Bill and Wikipedia:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-65388255

Formal transcript from the debate is here
<https://hansard.parliament.uk/lords/2023-04-25/debates/8A42D322-903C-485F-907E-11FDF4EDCB08/OnlineSafetyBill>
with
discussion of Wikipedia started just after 5:30pm.

Lucy is strategising with the Wikimedia Foundation about next steps, and
priorities for the Report Stage (which is where amendments that have made
it to that point will be voted on).

All best

[Wikimediauk-l] Re: Wikidata 10th Birthday

2022-10-21 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi Lewis

The majority of our projects now use Wikidata in some way, so it's hard to
list them all, but thought you might be interested in some examples:

   - The Vocal Eyes project will add the information from their report to
Wikidata. Volunteers went to heritage sites to gather data on the
accessibility of the sites for visitors with access barriers, e.g. blind,
   deaf, and autistic visitors.
   - The Wikimedian in Residence at the British Library used Wikidata for
the Lotus Sutras project - looking at a potential for some Chinese
labelling and querying of the extant Lotus Sutra and data on Wikimedia
   Commons and Wikidata.
   - The Wikimedian in Residence at the Khalili Collections continues to
add detail to the Wikidata representation of the Collections. There are now
more than 10,000 statements about Khalili Collections objects, including
properties of paintings within manuscripts and albums. Sum of all
Paintings, the effort to document all notable paintings in Wikidata, now
lists the Khalili Collection of Islamic Art with 95 paintings.
   - At the National Library of Wales, the resident continues work on
mapping Welsh place names. He is working with NLW staff to align our
authority records to Wikidata, and merging some Welsh place names on
   Wikidata due to duplication.
   - The Wikimedian in Residence at the University of Edinburgh continues
to support training for Wikidata, including two internships for the map of
accused witches. In fact, the success of the Wikidata Map of Accused
Witches in Scotland website has garnered a lot of notice locally,
nationally and internationally as a model for opening up research datasets
for further research and inquiry, especially when it is done as part of
teaching and learning to support students’ understanding of data science.
This project has led directly to the Mapping the Scottish Reformation
project (an ongoing collaboration) with partners at Newman University,
Birmingham, and Washington & Lee University, USA. It has also led to a
nascent project as of June 2021 with Dr. Zsusanna Vargas on a project to
visualise a map of places of publication for 700-900 books. There is a
sense of a growing appetite for providing more training for Wikidata work
to support research datasets as certain research grants specify that
research outputs be made openly available.

There's more projects than just these ones, but these give you a taste of
the kind of thing we're using Wikidata for. Wikidata is particularly useful
for our newest strategic pillar of climate and environment, as it helps us
map climate data on the Wikimedia projects. Our partners for this pillar
are also very interested in using Wikidata to get their scientific data,
reports about climate initiatives, collections of wildlife information etc.
onto the Wikimedia projects.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best wishes
Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] New Wikimedia Visiting Fellow at GSI

2022-10-21 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

I'm delighted to share with you all that we have recently hired our
first-ever residency for climate. Tatjana Baleta has been recruited as
Wikimedia Visiting Fellow at the University of Exeter, within the Global
Systems Institute (GSI) academic community. Tatjana will work alongside
several world-leading climate scientists, including those at the UK Met
Office with whom the GSI has a strategic partnership. She will also be
amongst researchers from other disciplines who are looking into climate
impacts, climate justice, biodiversity and energy.

There's an announcement blog
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2022/10/new-partnership-delivers-wikimedia-uks-first-ever-residency-for-climate/>
with more details, including a quote from Femke Nijsse who was essential in
helping us form this partnership. There's also a blog
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2022/10/welcome-tatjana-baleta-wikimedia-visiting-fellow-for-climate/>
written by Tatjana about her background in climate communications and
conservation.

It's very exciting to have a dedicated staff member for our newest
strategic pillar, and I'm sure you'll all join us in welcoming her. Tatjana
has joined this mailing list, but if you'd like to get in touch with her
directly please use t.bal...@exeter.ac.uk.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Best wishes
Katie

2022-08-11 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi folks

Our Wikimania sessions kick off tomorrow at 2pm, and on Saturday from
10:30am. There's a really great list of sessions on the Zoom events
<https://events.zoom.us/e/view/SnEL_wj-SECEZbx00N6yiw>, for which you can
sign up to attend *in person and online*.

There's two WikiData sessions for both beginners and experts, an editathon
for South Asian Heritage Month, short Lightning Talks from our community,
and much more :)

We'll be at Newspeak House in Bethnal Green: 133 - 135 Bethnal Green Road,
London, E2 7DG. Information on how to get to Newspeak House can be found on
the ‘Visit’ page here: https://newspeak.house

We will have refreshments, wifi, an outside terrace to keep cool and some
fizz for celebrations.

Hope to see you there.

Best

[Wikimediauk-l] 2022 WMUK board elections

2022-06-20 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

We sent an email to members about board recruitment for this year's AGM.
The deadline to apply to be a Wikimedia UK trustee is this Friday 24th at
11:59pm. Here's the copy of the email that went to the membership:
*Notice of Wikimedia UK’s Annual General Meeting**Saturday 9th July
2022 online*

The next AGM for Wikimedia UK will be held on Saturday 9th July. As a
member of the charity this is an important opportunity for you to have your
say about how we work, influence how we are run and potentially stand for
the board, so we would encourage you to attend. Please put the date in your
diary and sign up here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uks-2022-agm-tickets-348700531677?aff=erelpanelorg>
.

The AGM will run from 10am-12:30pm. The draft agenda is online here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2022_AGM>.
Invitation for candidates for election to the Board

There are three trustee vacancies at this year’s AGM, with one existing
trustee standing for re-election. Any member who meets the criteria has the
right to stand, although we are particularly keen to hear from potential
candidates with experience in *accounting, external relations, charity
governance or the cultural sector*. Understanding and experience of the
Wikimedia community is also very beneficial, although not essential for
every board member.

If you wish to stand please follow the procedure here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee> and submit your
application to the teller – Katie Crampton at tell...@wikimedia.org.uk – *no
later than* *Friday 24th June*. Please do feel free to get in touch if you
would like to arrange an information discussion about joining the board
with our Chief Executive, Lucy Crompton-Reid.
*Voting Papers*

All current members of the charity will be sent AGM papers by email,
including voting papers and proxy forms. We would encourage you to make use
of your voting rights, whether or not you are able to join the meeting
itself. Voting on the day will take place online via a secure system. If
you can’t attend and want to vote in advance of the meeting, the deadline
is Thursday 7th July at 11am. Full details of how to submit a proxy vote
will be included in your voting pack.

If you have changed your email in the last year or would prefer us to use a
different email address to contact you on, please do email
members...@wikimedia.org.uk with any updates by Friday 24th June. You can
also use this email to contact us if you haven't received your voting
papers by Monday 4th July.
*Annual Report and Accounts*

The draft annual report and accounts for 2021/22 are in the process of
being signed off by the board and the Auditors. All members will receive a
link to online versions of the Annual Report and Strategic Report prior to
the AGM.

We would love to see as many of our members, volunteers and other
stakeholders as possible online for our AGM on 9th July, so please sign up
below! [
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uks-2022-agm-tickets-348700531677]

[Wikimediauk-l] 2022 AGM first formal email

2022-05-27 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

The first formal email for the 2022 AGM was sent out to all members
yesterday. It included details on how to propose resolutions
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2022_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions>,
what we're looking for in the three board positions
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee> we have to fill,
and the eventbrite
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uks-2022-agm-tickets-348700531677?aff=ebdsoporgprofile>
 link.

The formal AGM is separate from the community aspects of the day this year
e.g lightning talks and awards. This means the meeting is much shorter,
allowing you to have your afternoon free! As you may have seen from
Natasha's survey emails, we will be having community activities later in
the year to coincide with Wikimania.

If you did not receive the AGM email yesterday and believe you should have,
please message me off list.

You can apply or renew your WMUK membership here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Membership>.

Best wishes
Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] Summer/Autumn newsletter

2021-08-12 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

Wikimedia UK's summer/autumn newsletter will be going out at the end of
September. Please let me know if you have any news to share as we'd love to
feature the community.

If your news is unrelated to Wikimedia UK's work but still in the
Wiki-sphere, we're happy to highlight the wider movement's activities in a
dedicated section.

Best wishes
Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] Re: Global block importer

2021-07-07 Thread Katie Crampton
To be fair minutes for meetings shouldn’t be able to be edited by general
editors anyway.
I don’t really understand the issue you’ve described Deryck, but minutes of
AGMs are legal documents that we need auditors and the membership to approve,
so it’d be grand if edits can be suggested to a member of staff such as myself
or Lucy as common practice rather than made to the page itself.

Many thanks for highlighting the issue though.

Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Women's History Month interviews

2021-02-26 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi Roger

Yes it's covered in the videos, especially in Victoria's interview. I have
yet to interview Alice and Lucy, but I know they acknowledge the allies we
have in male editors. As it's our first year doing the videos and there are
only 5 Mondays in March, we felt these were the people we wanted to ask.
While I appreciate that the gender gap is not only a women's issue, I feel
that these women are the best people to speak on their work.

Thanks for the offer. I actually emailed Ewan to offer him a blog spot, but
after some discussion Sarah Lappin will be writing one for us on her
upcoming event (you can sign up here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/women-empowered-wikipedia-editathon-tickets-141961184725>).
Lucy will be covering the work of great Wikimedians in Residence like Ewan,
that's sort of the idea for her interview i.e. to round up anything that's
not been covered in the first 4 interviews and to ask editors who aren't
women to get involved.

Best wishes
Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] Wikipedia's Twentieth Birthday

2021-01-05 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

Hope you had a good break, and happy new year to you all!

As many of you will know, Wikipedia turns twenty on the 15th January. We're
having a party at 5-6pm on Zoom, with a talk from Jimmy Wales and short
lightning talks from the UK community. Sign up here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikipedias-20th-birthday-party-tickets-132918742537>
if you'd like to join us.

We'll also be running a #WikiLovesCakes GBBO-style competition on
social media over the birthday weekend from the 15th - 18th January. If
you'd like to join our judging panel (no tasting required!) please let
me know. Photos of cakes will be judged on:

1) Wikipedia story or connection
2) How the panel think they will taste
3) Appearance / decoration

The Wikimedia Foundation has asked us to pass on a message about birthday
wishes from the UK: *We’d love to have Wikimedia UK and volunteers in the
UK participate in a birthday montage video that we will be presenting
during Wikipedia’s birthday party on January 15th. All you need to do is
record a short clip (under 30 seconds) via your phone or computer, saying
Happy Birthday or sharing birthday wishes to Wikipedia in your preferred
language. You can Click here <https://www.tribute.co/wikipedia/> to record
a video to be a part of Wikipedia’s birthday montage. Deadline to submit a
video is January 11th.*

Let me know if you have any questions.

[Wikimediauk-l] Fundraising and Development Coordinator job opening

2020-11-03 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

We're recruiting for a Fundraiser and Development Coordinator
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Fundraising_Development_Coordinator> to join
our newly formed Development and Communications team, which includes
Natasha Iles and myself.

The Foundation has recently awarded us an additional grant to develop our
fundraising capacity over the next three years. We are therefore looking
for a competent, ambitious and creative fundraiser to fill this
newly created role with responsibility for building and managing the
voluntary income for the charity.

If you could please share among your networks we'd be very grateful, as
we're not using recruiters to fill this role. We've tweeted

if you could help us out there too.

[Wikimediauk-l] Proposed Universal Code of Conduct

2020-07-22 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

The Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) is aiming to create a Universal Code of
Conduct, which will harmonise existing behavioural policies and guidelines
across all Wikimedia projects and languages into one Code of Conduct for
all staff and volunteers. Wikimedia UK has created a survey - based on the
Art+Feminism community survey - to gather feedback from Wikimedia’s
contributors in the UK, which we will share (anonymously) with the
Foundation and which will inform our own chapter response to the proposals.
There will be further opportunities to provide feedback following the
initial drafting stage, at which point there will be a community
consultation on the wording of the Code (likely to be from the last week of
August).

Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedia branding phase 2: naming proposals

2020-06-24 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

As promised, the UK community feedback meeting for branding is going
ahead *today
at 1-2pm*. You can find the naming proposals put forward by the Wikimedia
Foundation's brand project team here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/Wikimedia_brands/2030_movement_brand_project/Naming_convention_proposals>,
and see the questions we'll be answering in regards to each naming proposal
here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/Wikimedia_brands/2030_movement_brand_project/Naming_convention_proposals/Survey_text#Survey_questions>
.

Join the Zoom meeting <https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81112095916>.

Again, this meeting is not to decide whether Wikimedia UK should adopt the
rebrand, but to consider how well each of the naming proposals fit the six
branding objectives and if we have any other feedback we'd like to give the
brand project team.

Do let me know if you have any questions.

Many thanks
Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] Standing for election to Wikimedia UK's Board of Trustees

2020-06-15 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

If you haven't signed up for the Annual General Meeting, which will be held
online on Saturday 18th July, please do so on Eventbrite here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uk-2020-agm-tickets-105946892006>.
You don't have to be a member to attend, but only members are entitled to
vote.

Nominations for Wikimedia UK's board of trustees are now open. There are
three vacancies at this year's AGM, with two existing trustees standing for
reelection. If you wish to stand for the board, please submit a Candidate
Statement
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2020_Annual_General_Meeting/Candidate_Statements>
by 6pm on 3rd July 2020. Statements are to be sent to me (Katie) via this
email address. You must be a member
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Membership> of Wikimedia UK to stand for the
board and you must have joined as a member by Monday 29th June.

Members can propose and second candidates for the board, but it is not a
requirement for candidates to have a proposer or a seconder, as
self-nomination is sufficient.

If you would like an informal conversation about standing for the board
prior to submitting your candidacy, please let me know and I'll set up a
call with Lucy Crompton-Reid, Wikimedia UK's Chief Executive.

As all voting for this year's elections will be done by proxy - the
deadline for which is 48 hours before the start of the AGM - I wanted to
highlight the opportunity for members to ask candidates questions either by
editing this page
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2020_Annual_General_Meeting/Candidate_Questions>
or by sending them to me to add to the page on your behalf.

Many thanks

Katie

Hi all

The Foundation's Brand Project Team has announced new dates for the naming

 (4pm BST).

We will be holding a UK community feedback meeting on *Wednesday 24th June,
1-2pm,* for which I will send a video conference link next week. Again,
this meeting is not to decide whether Wikimedia UK should adopt the
rebrand, but to discuss the different naming proposals and measure them
against the survey questions. The rebrand will not apply to projects such
as Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, or WikiJournal of Medicine, it is only for
affiliates such as chapters and user groups who are using the Wikimedia
name and logo.

The survey questions are now on meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/Wikimedia_brands/2030_movement_brand_project/Naming_convention_proposals/Survey_text>.
While the proposals will not be posted until the 16th, reviewing the
questions can help you plan your feedback.

Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedia UK’s 2020 AGM - resolutions & invitation to non-members

2020-06-10 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

Just to let you know, we've extended the deadline for members to suggest
resolutions to this Friday, 12th June. The resolutions, which you can find
in the link in my last email, will also have two special resolutions; one
to allow online voting at future AGMs, and a second for more leniency in
our articles for sending members voting packs by post, allowing us to cut
down on our paper use and postage cost.

Let me know if you have any questions.

[Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedia UK’s 2020 AGM - resolutions & invitation to non-members

2020-06-04 Thread Katie Crampton
Dear all

Last Friday, emails were sent to all current members of Wikimedia UK
regarding our upcoming AGM, which will take place on Saturday 18th July 2020
online. Details of what video conferencing platform we'll be using will be
sent with next month's email, so please be sure to sign up on Eventbrite
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uk-2020-agm-tickets-105946892006?aff=erelexpmlt>
to book your ticket.

Volunteers who aren't members are also welcome at this event, although we
would encourage you to become a member
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1=4>
(for only £5 a year) to enable you to participate fully in the day. If you
believe that you are a member but did not receive a message this morning,
please email me at members...@wikimedia.org.uk.

Below is a copy of what members were sent. Please note that the full agenda
will be sent out next month, but that we are envisaging the event will
start at 11am and finish at 3.30pm, with the AGM itself taking place 2 -
3pm.
About the day

Although we will be meeting virtually rather than in person, we are hoping
to make the day as interactive as possible - packed with interesting
presentations and discussion, and maybe even some fun activities!

We will be talking about and encouraging feedback on some big changes in
the global Wikimedia movement - such as implementing the 2030 strategy and
rebranding Wikimedia - and inviting lightning talks from members and
volunteers. If you would like to give a short presentation about your work
as part of our lightning talks session, please contact Sara at
sara.tho...@wikimedia.org.uk.

Next month we will be inviting nominations for Wikimedian and Partner of
the Year, awards which recognise people and institutions that have made a
particularly significant contribution to Wikimedia over the past year.
AGM and elections

In the afternoon we will hold the official Annual General Meeting prior to
the presentation of awards. The AGM will include reports from the Chair,
Treasurer and Chief Executive, and an opportunity for questions on reports
or other relevant issues.

There are three trustee vacancies at this year’s AGM, with two existing
trustees likely to stand again. Members are warmly encouraged to stand for
the board, and we are particularly keen to hear from potential candidates
from traditionally underrepresented groups, such as those with protected
characteristics as defined by the Equality Act. We will share more details
of how to stand for election next month, but in the meantime you can find
out more about the Wikimedia UK board here
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=4009=561864>
.

Wikimedia UK’s Articles of Association do not currently allow us to have an
online vote, so all voting will be by proxy for this year’s trustee
elections. Candidate statements will go up on our Wiki as usual, but as
proxy voting closes 48 hours before the AGM we want to highlight the
opportunity to ask candidates questions, which you can do so by editing this
 page
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=4010=561864>
 or by emailing us.
Board and members resolutions

The board is proposing ordinary resolutions which are on our wiki here
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=4004=561864>.
This year there will also be special resolutions to allow online voting and
electronic voting packs for future AGMs. The text of these resolutions will
be published on wiki as soon as possible.

Members are also entitled to propose resolutions for consideration at the
AGM. Any member who wishes to do so must let us know, with a copy of the
suggested text, by Monday 8th June. The text may either be sent by email to
the charity at i...@wikimedia.org.uk or may be posted online at
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2020_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions

Anyone who wants to attend must register in advance, so please sign up on
the Eventbrite
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=4008=561864>
page. Please note that you must register for the AGM on Eventbrite rather
than on wiki as we need your full name, not Wikimedia user name, and we’ll
be sending out video conference links to all Eventbrite attendees closer to
the event.

If you have any questions or more general comments, please do get in touch
with me on this email, or on members...@wikimedia.org.uk.

Best wishes

Katie

2020-05-07 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all

The Brand Project Team has postponed today’s live presentation of the
naming proposals due to trademark concerns, more info here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Communications/Wikimedia_brands/2030_movement_brand_project?fbclid=IwAR0kBKCt4cElMDxZrZkTYSoIfintMZZGqgy1Wbp5Ei2ef81BJGkMbTT2lEY#Rescheduling_Naming_Convention_Proposal_community_review>.
Therefore Wikimedia UK will also be rescheduling our feedback meeting on
14th May. The Brand Team is meeting with the Foundation’s Board of Trustees
on the 22nd May, after which I hope we can set a new date for our feedback
discussion.

Do let me know if you have any questions.

Best wishes

Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedia branding phase 2: naming proposals

2020-05-05 Thread Katie Crampton
Morning all

As some of you will already know, the Wikimedia Foundation is currently
exploring whether or not it should rebrand. The impetus for this is the
2030 movement strategy, and the objective of better communicating who we
are in order to attract billions of new users into the movement.

Phase 1 of the rebrand has been completed, which resulted in the creation
of the design concept of ‘Interconnection’. You can watch the concept
presentation here <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS72O6Si94Q>. The
branding team are now in Phase 2, which focuses on potential new naming
conventions for the Wikimedia Foundation (and potentially other
organisations within the movement). The naming convention proposals will be
released for movement-wide feedback via a live YouTube presentation
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfJAZEkDVIY> from the Foundation’s
branding team this Thursday 7th May at 6pm BST.

Wikimedia UK will be holding a video conference on Thursday 14th May at
1-2pm to gather feedback on the proposals. The discussion will focus on how
well each naming proposal fulfils the six branding objectives
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/Wikimedia_brands/2030_movement_brand_project#The_qualities_of_good_Movement_branding>
as defined by the Wikimedia Foundation. You can give feedback directly in
this meeting - either verbally or in the chat - or on this page on Meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Brand_Network/Wikimedia_UK>. If you have
any questions or would prefer to give feedback by email, please contact me
at katie.cramp...@wikimedia.org.uk.

We are currently working on the agenda for this hour long meeting, in which
we will summarise the current status of the branding project and the
proposed new naming conventions, and facilitate feedback from participants.
The meeting will be taking place on Zoom so please use the following
meeting link:

Wikimedia branding meeting
<https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84923705171?pwd=dXBaRTZXbTNQVDJianlxb0xZL3U5Zz09>

Meeting ID: 849 2370 5171

Password: 916100

Wikimedia affiliates <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Brand_Network>, such
as chapters and user groups, will have the option of whether to opt in to
the new brand and change their own organisational names. However the
meeting on 14th May is not to decide whether Wikimedia UK should rebrand,
but to discuss the risks and rewards of each naming proposal. We will
collate your feedback into a form and submit this to the branding team by
the deadline of 21st May. If you’d prefer to give your feedback as an
individual there will be a seperate form available.

We want to create a friendly space for discussion to ensure we’re hearing
from as many voices in our diverse community as possible. If you have any
questions prior to the meeting, please get in touch.

Best wishes

Katie

Thanks Owen! The Natural History Museum did this with their Data Portal

they were building it. Thanks to Andy Mabbet for letting us know that
high-res images of their specimens are now being uploaded on Commons

I'm an advocate for getting their bee specimens on Commons if anyone wants
to give that a go :)

[Wikimediauk-l] Members for Wikimedia UK's 2020 AGM

2020-03-25 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi all, hope you're well

For the members <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Membership> of Wikimedia UK,
I wanted to let you know that at our (virtual) board meeting last Saturday,
we agreed that the 2020 Annual General Meeting will be held online, rather
than as an in-person event. We are following the Charity Commission's
guidelines
<https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/charities-and-meetings-cc48/charities-and-meetings>
so we can help keep everyone safe given the current pandemic:

The requirements for charitable companies to have meetings of their
members, and to transact certain items of business at meetings of their
members, can now be dispensed with in certain circumstances.

The date of the AGM will be Saturday 18th July. Given the move to an online
only event, we will need to work out how best to enable everyone to
participate, and what the format and schedule should look like. You can
expect to hear more details from us in a few months time, but for now we
would be grateful if you could put the date in your diaries.

I'll be sending another email to all members soon. If you do not receive
one and think you should, let me know so I can check your membership status.

Do get in touch with me by email if you have any questions or comments.

Best wishes

Katie

Re: [Wikimediauk-l] AGM voting

2019-07-10 Thread Katie Crampton
Hi Fae

Your membership expired before we gave the formal notice for the AGM, so
I'm afraid you're not eligible to vote in this AGM as the deadline for
renewal was 1st July. An email was sent to all 'in grace' members as part
of their voting pack for the last AGM on 5th July 2018, including the line "I
also noticed *your membership is due for renewal*. In order to vote and
remain an active member for the upcoming year, please update your
membership here
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1=4>". I
can see from the report that you received it to another of your email
addresses.

I emailed all current members about the 2019 AGM on 24th May, and Lucy
followed up with a message to this mailing list containing similar
information. The email from Lucy included the line "if you believe that you
are a member but did not receive a message this morning, please email
members...@wikimedia.org.uk". Lucy emailed this mailing list on Monday and
said that voting packs had been distributed to members by post last week. We
also posted about the deadline of 1st July for membership renewals through
our social media channels.

Do let me know if you have any queries.

With kind regards

[Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedia UK's 2019 AGM - agenda, board elections, voting papers & lightning talks

2019-06-20 Thread Katie Crampton
Good morning

Yesterday evening, emails were sent to all current members of Wikimedia UK
with more information on this year's AGM in Bristol, which you can sign up
to here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uk-2019-agm-tickets-62303110280>.

Volunteers who aren't members are also welcome at this event, although we
would encourage you to become a member
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1=4>
(for only £5 a year) to enable you to participate fully in the day. If you
believe that you are a member but did not receive this message yesterday,
please let me know.

*Notice of Wikimedia UK’s Annual General Meeting**Saturday 13th July 2019
at Watershed, Bristol*

The next AGM for Wikimedia UK will be held on Saturday 13th July at the
Watershed in Bristol. As a member of the charity this is an important
opportunity for you to have your say about how we work, influence how we
are run and potentially stand for the board, so we would encourage you to
attend.

The AGM itself will start at 2.30pm, however we have planned other
activities from 11am including talks and workshops, a photography walk of
the local area, and the presentations of our Wikimedian of the Year awards
as well as our inaugural Honorary Memberships. We are using eventbrite for
AGM registrations so please sign up here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uk-2019-agm-tickets-62303110280> if
you are able to attend.

*Invitation for candidates for election to the Board*

There are *five trustee vacancies* at this year’s AGM, with three existing
trustees likely to stand again. We are particularly keen to have more
people from the Wikimedia community on the board, so please do consider
standing for these elections. Any member fulfilling the criteria has a
right to stand, although we’d particularly appreciate anyone who has
experience in Legal, Fundraising, Communications or HR. If you wish to
stand please follow the procedure here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee> and submit your
application to the teller no later than *Friday 28th June*.

*Voting Papers*

All current members of the charity will be sent AGM papers by post,
including voting papers and proxy forms. We would encourage you to make use
of your voting rights, whether or not you are able to come to the meeting
itself. If you are unable to attend, you can appoint another person -
including the Chair of the Board of Trustees - as your proxy to attend and
vote on your behalf.

If you have moved house in the past year, or you are not sure if we have
your correct postal address details, please do email
members...@wikimedia.org.uk with any updates by Monday 1st July. You can
also use this email to contact us if you haven't received your voting
papers by Monday 8th July.

*Annual Report and Accounts*

The draft annual report and accounts are in the process of being signed off
by the board and the Auditors, and will be published online prior to the
AGM. To save paper, we won’t be sending hard copies of the annual report to
all our members this year however copies will be available at the AGM. The
Strategic Report will also be available in hard copy or in a PDF online by
the time of the AGM.

*Lightning Talks*

Lightning Talks have proved a popular feature at past meetings and give
members the opportunity to hear about a wide range of projects and
activities related to Wikimedia and open knowledge more broadly. If you
would like to give a talk, please email members...@wikimedia.org.uk and a
member of staff will follow up with you directly.
We would love to see as many of our members, volunteers and other
stakeholders as possible at Bristol’s fantastic Watershed
<https://www.watershed.co.uk/> for our AGM
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2019_AGM> on 13th July, so please sign up
below!

Kind regards
Katie

[Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedia UK 2018 AGM

2018-05-31 Thread Katie Crampton
Good morning all

I'm pleased to confirm that this year's Wikimedia UK AGM will be taking
place on *Saturday 14th July* at the Flett Lecture Theatre, the Natural
History Museum, Exhibition Road, London SW7 2HF.

The detailed schedule for the day <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2018_AGM> is
currently being finalised. But we will start the event at 10:30am with
talks and workshops from 11am, including a keynote speech from the
Campaigns Director of Liberty, Corey Stoughton, a look at our work with the
Welsh Government from Welsh Digital Language Specialist, Gareth Morlais,
and an introduction to the challenges and successes of the Natural History
Museums' new Data Portal <http://data.nhm.ac.uk/> with Helen Hardy.

The actual AGM order of business is scheduled for 3 pm - 4.30 pm, but we
would encourage you to come and stay for the whole day. All volunteers,
editors and partners are welcome, but only members will be eligible to vote
on AGM matters.

To attend, you must please let us know you're coming. The registration page
on Eventbrite can be found here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uk-agm-2018-tickets-46366475376>.
For security and catering we must have an up to date attendee list, so if
you can no longer attend after registering please email me at
katie.cramp...@wikimedia.org.uk

Any member who wishes to bring forward a resolution for consideration at
the AGM must inform the charity, and supply a copy of the suggested text,
by no later than *Friday 8th June 2017*. The suggested text may either be
sent by email to the chair of the board at i...@wikimedia.org.uk or may be
posted online at
*https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2017_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2017_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions>*

If you have any questions do let me know. I'll be emailing and updating the
wiki with further details, including the agenda, over the coming weeks.

With best wishes

Katie
