[Wikimediauk-l] Events

2019-04-11 Thread John Lubbock
Hi all, two things to tell you about. Firstly, this weekend, a few of us
will be going to Conway Hall at 11am before the London meetup to look at
their collection of 19th century pamphlets. They will be doing an editathon
on May 18

to add content based on these newly digitised pamphlets so we are going to
assess the collection and see what can be improved on Wikipedia/Wikidata by
using these sources. If anybody wants to come with us to Conway Hall before
going to the meetup, please let me know.

Secondly, we have the second Wikidata meetup in London on May 2. The
Eventbrite signup is here

and the Meta page is here
. Events list is
up to date I think so please check it out for other events here

I'm also just preparing the Spring newsletter, so if anybody would like to
write about something Wikimedia related for it, please get in touch.

Of course, those were just new events I added to the Events list. There are
things in Edinburgh too on the list.

https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Events

There's also been a suggestion of holding a meetup in Nottingham, which I'd
like to help organise, but may need some community help to do so (find a
suitable venue, help with informing people who might want to come).

[Wikimediauk-l] Events on Feb 3 - Wikidata hackathon just announced

2018-01-24 Thread John Lubbock
Hi all,

We have 2 events on Feb 3 which you should all come to!

We are hosting our first Wikidata hackathon at Newspeak House in East
London, teaching people how to use Wikidata. It's been quite short notice
to organise, but we are hoping it will be a launchpad for future
hackathons. We'd like to create more Wikidata users in the UK, and see how
we can use Wikidata within our partnerships, as well as encouraging people
to upload new data sets.

We'd love to see you all at the hackathon, as well as the event with
Katherine Maher from the WMF later on the same day.

Sign up for the hackathon here

.

Sign up for the 'Future of Wikipedia' talk with Katherine Maher here

To echo this - please do pass on the details of the vacancy to anyone you
know who might be interested.

We're finding that on the whole, the average quality of candidates from
within the community is higher than that of candidates who are new to
Wikimedia, and so applications from Wikimedians are particularly welcome.

So if you know someone who you think could do the job, you could be doing
them and us a big favour by persuading them to apply.
