 Hi everyone,

 I hope you're all well.

I'm sorry I didn't post for a long time, so here is some news (not
exhaustive, feel free to answer with your own news):
 - first and foremost, the Wishlist is back and it starts next Monday:
 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2021 let's
gather our best idea again this year!
 - as usual, if you did something related to Wikisource, don't hesitate
 to add it on
 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikisource_Community_User_Group/2020_Report
(especially in this strange year, if you did some online activities, I'd
 love to hear about it!)
 - an "Affiliates Data Survey" run by mail and by the Foundation is
coming; I'll get in touch with you soon, if you are interested to share
your experience with the Wikisource community, feel free to contact me in
 private.
 - here is a very interesting and promising project to improve
 Wikidata-Wikisource Integration :
 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikicite/grant/Improving_Wikidata-Wikisource_Integration

Finally, as an official user group, the Foundation requires 2 primary
contacts, for now (and since a long time), I'm the only contact, which is
 problematic.
Also, for me, I'd be happy to have some help ;)
 Are there any candidates?

 Cheers,
 For the WCUG,
 Nicolas

[Wikisource-l] Fwd: [Wikimedia-l] Launch of Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal

2020-03-06 Thread balaji
-- Forwarded message -
From: Dumisani Ndubane
Date: Fri, 6 Mar, 2020, 11:22 PM
Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Launch of Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal
To: Wikimedia Mailing List

TL;DR: Launch of Wikimedia Affiliates Data Portal

We are launching a new form-based annual reporting system for Wikimedia
affiliates [1], as well as a basic Affiliates data query system. We would
love your feedback.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hello, Affiliate Leaders & Community Members,

Tired of the affiliate reports [2] wiki table of death? SO are we!

The Learning & Evaluation team is pleased to announce the launch of the
Wikimedia Affiliates Data (WAD) Portal [1]. This portal will serve three
purposes as follows:

   1. It introduces a new Object-Oriented User Interface (OOUI) [3]
form-based report submission interface for annual activity and financial
reports. This replaces the wiki mark-up based submission via the
   [[Reports]] page on meta.
   2. It introduces the ability for Organizations to update their
information using OOUI forms on the fly.
   3. It introduces a new simple data query form that allows anyone
logged-in to their public wiki accounts to run a query and view results
on
available Affiliates data. The query tool will be improved in the coming
financial year, as we work to code data in Affiliate reports into
structured data, to allow for richer analysis.

The [[Reports]] page on meta will continue to be visible on meta until the
end of June 2020, after which it will be protected and archived. All
organizations that are due to submit annual reports at the end of March are
encouraged to use the new report submission forms. If you do use the new
forms, please share any feedback you have about this new process on the
Portal’s talk page

We will hold training seminars for those who wish to be onboarded to the
submission forms and the Query system during the months of March and April
2020 (Dates will be communicated soon).

We have taken time to pre-populate the system with basic information about
each recognized Wikimedia affiliate, however, should you find any incorrect
or outdated information about your group, please use the organization
information page[4] to provide updated information.

We trust that you will enjoy the new portal and that you will find it
useful. Should you have any problems or encounter bugs in the new forms,
please use the Portal talk page [5] to log these, or to simply ask
questions. We will collect similar questions to create an FAQ page in due
time.

Kindest regards

Thanks for initiating this. With many issues around wikisource and much

separate conference dedicated for wikisource.

2019-12-10 Thread balaji
Hi,
Thanks Vigneron for starting this up for timely discussion. We need to
discuss how and what to present about our group in the conference. We need
to take into account about experience, opportunity for people, full
availability for the conference.(Not like the same person representing
wikisource also doing other activities in conference), etc while selecting
the people.

p.s. This year I wont be able to travel during that time. So i am not a
candidate.

Regards,
Balaji.

[Wikisource-l] Bookwise download details through ws-export tool

2018-09-07 Thread balaji
Hi all,
Many wikisources have implemented the facility to download the
wikisource content in a variety of formats through wsexport tool. And the
download statistics language wise is give at
https://tools.wmflabs.org/wsexport/tool/stat.php

T. Shrinivasan and rajeshkumar have written code and come with reporting
of Bookwise download details through ws-export tool updated on a daily
basis from the wsexport data.

Currently the data is done for three languages. Tamil (ta), Bengali (Bn)
Telugu (te).

The links are

https://tools.wmflabs.org/shrinitools/WSDownloadReport/ta/

https://tools.wmflabs.org/shrinitools/WSDownloadReport/bn/

https://tools.wmflabs.org/shrinitools/WSDownloadReport/te/

If any language is interested in this report and have suggestions to
improve or collaborate can kindly contact T. Shrinivasan. I copying this
mail to his mail id too.

Re: [Wikisource-l] wavy line

2018-01-05 Thread balaji
Hi Bodhisattwa Mandal,

Thanks for replying back.

Actually since the screen size of the reader is not know it would be best
if there is some kind of auto width solution. For example a horizontal
straight line created with template:rule. The width of the line is auto. If
I use many w|40 parameter there might be chances of overflow or underflow.

Thanks & Regards,

Re: [Wikisource-l] wavy line

2018-01-05 Thread balaji
Hello every one,
Thanks for everyone taking effort to reply. I
tried various solutions.

Repeating a single character wouldnt be desirable. Because the effect
wouldnt be same for different screen sizes.

I tried the custom rule template. But with the parameters i could do, I
could only produce a wavy line of short length. Is there a way to create
the wave effect for full length like a line?

I tried a solution by Alex. It seems to work okay in firefox. But doesnt
look good in chrome.

As people pointed out, the shape of the line doesnt convey any meaning. Its
true. Just wanted to try if there is any easy way to format to look as its
original. If not possible going to use a simple straight line.

Thanks

[Wikisource-l] wavy line

2018-01-04 Thread balaji
Hello all,
For a book I am proof reading there is a requirement to
create wavy line. The link for the page is https://ta.wikisource.org/s/6du

The wavy line is appearing in many pages.

Is there any template to create this effect.?

Regards,

Hi Z,
Thanks for taking time to explain me about the issue.

I am not sure of how to add the codes in the mobile view in ta.ws . There
are many loops there and i am not comfortable with codes.

I request for help here. I have the admin rights. what code I have to
insert, in which page, which place.

I dont want to break the pages accidentally due to my wrong coding

[Wikisource-l] headers at the bottom in the mobile version too!

2017-12-20 Thread balaji
Hi all,
Most of the wikisource use the template header
<https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Template:Header> . In the desktop view it
creates a header box with optional link to previous and next page. It
automatically creates another box at the bottom with similar option to
navigate to next or previous page or to the top.

But in the mobile view only the header box at the top is visible. The
header box at the bottom is not visible.

In Tamil wikisource more than 60% of the views is from mobile devices.
Hence it would be nice to know a way to show the header box at the bottom
too in mobile view.

Regards,
J. Balaji.

[Wikisource-l] lack of quality flag in visual editor

2017-12-18 Thread balaji
Hi all,
I don't know if this is a known issue. While proof reading using
the "Visual editor", while saving there is no option of quality flag. So it
is not possible to change the status of proofreading. This is especially
becoming difficult in "Tamil" wikisource. The new users are given an option
of visual editor. After that they are not able to change the quality flag.

I hope some one is working regarding this issue.

Is there any way where I can disable the option to offer the new users to
choice visual editor.? If the users wish anyway they would be able to
choose that in beta option. (P.S. I have admin rights in "Tamil" wikisource)

Regards,
J. Balaji.

But still in the transcluded page the page numbers are overlapping with

Hi,
I am an admin in Tamil wikisource. There is need felt by many that the
header and footer must be visible in page namespace for everyone by
default. How to set that option. Currently one has to go to setting and
enable it. Mostly people don't know they have to do that.

[Wikisource-l] Creating family tree chart while proof reading

2017-04-11 Thread balaji
Hi all,
There is one particular book I am proof reading in Tamil
language. There is a page which has a family tree chart. How to proof read
that. The page I am talking about can be found here
https://ta.wikisource.org/s/938 . In the current format if downloaded as
epub of rtf etc., the structure is not maintained if page size is changed.
How this can be proof read?

Regards,
J.Balaji.
