[Wikitech-l] Search synonyms

2010-05-15 Thread Lars Aronsson
We discovered in Wikisource that a search for
kvibille doesn't produce hits for the older
spelling qvibille (with Q instead of K).

Also, searches for jern and järn produce two
non-overlapping result sets, where as a search
for järnvåg produces hits for järnväg, so
apparently å-ä are treated as similar (harmful!)
while e-ä are not treated as similar (bad!).

The e-ä and q-k similarity is an issue in Wikisource,
since these are old spelling reforms, but this is
not an issue in the all-modern Wikipedia. Making
e-ä and q-k match in Wikipedia too would most
probably be harmless.

Is there any way we can change the behaviour?
Per language and project? Or does it need to be
changed in the Solr/Lucene distribution?

What is the current configuration and what sort
of input is needed for an improvement? A short
list of matching letters, or a full dictionary?

 Good morning,

cleanup that needs to be done and I'm going to shut down BZ for

everyone's inboxes. Here's the primary list of things I plan to do:

 - Remove deprecated keywords (fixed-in-cvs, etc)
 - Remove keywords that aren't applicable (needs-review on closed bugs)
 - Kill deprecated products (Issues, Logwood too? I think those can be
  moved to Wikimedia - Usage/Statistics)
 - Consolidate version numbers (1.3.1, 1.3.2, etc to 1.3.x, for all non-recent
  versions)

If anyone else can think of other things to do while we're at it please
feel free to take a look at [[mw:Bugzilla cleanup]].

Everything's done. Here's what I did do:

Deleted Issues.
Consolidated Mediawiki version numbers for all 1.14
Killed really old keywords fixed-in-cvs and similar.

Enjoy.

I'm not a BZ admin, to my knowledge at least. It's possible someone

That URL is for use in selenese scripts, not via a browser.
http://grid.tesla.usability.wikimedia.org:/console in a browser
will return the environments currently available for the selenese

In theory, yes. Someone needs to provide the code, though. For now,
people who want to sign up and can't solve a captcha can request that
an admin make an account for them, like people whose IP addresses are
blocked. I think enwiki has a toolserver project dedicated to that.

I believe reCaptcha has it implemented as part of their service (we

The en.wikipedia project for that resides at [[WP:ACC]](1), The
toolserver system from memory is a request type system (although that
may of changed since I last looked), where as the actual accounts are
created on site using the [[Special:CreateAccount]](2) special page,
there is a limit for that system so that a user may only create so
many accounts per hour, but we do (or did) have a override for that
