First of all, keep in mind $wgDBserver is case sensitive. It needs to be a lowercase s. Google comes up with https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=67563 - With that in mind, I would recommend using the DNS name of the mysql server you're using instead of its IP address (Or if it doesn't have one, create an entry in /etc/hosts for it).
