Re: [Wikitech-l] 25 VectorBeta and CPBbeta open tasks need cleanup, please

2016-08-15 Thread Adam Baso
Hi Danny B,

Thanks for the note. VectorBeta is technically under Reading Web
. We'll
need to do a sweep of the VectorBeta board as you suggest.

[Wikitech-l] 25 VectorBeta and CPBbeta open tasks need cleanup, please

2016-08-15 Thread Danny B.
Hello.

https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/mediawiki-extensions-vectorbeta/
contains 21 open tasks of which

* 13 are not tagged with any other open project
* 3 are not tagged by anything but yellow tags (= no projects, teams, goals,
releases...)
* 1 is tagged Wikimedia-General-or-Unknown

https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/compact-personal-bar-beta/ contains 21
open tasks of which

* 11 are not tagged with any other open project
* 3 are not tagged by anything but yellow tags (= no projects, teams, goals,
releases...)
* 1 is tagged Wikimedia-General-or-Unknown

(17 of these tasks are tagged with both of these archived projects, so the
real total of tasks in both projects is 25.)

Because I don't know details about these two projects and their archiving, I
would like to ask whoever relevant to perform some cleanup, which means one
or both of following actions:

* tag the task with any open project (except for generic "Wikimedia-General-
or-Unknown" or "MediaWiki-General-or-Unknown: or such), team, goal or
release
* close the task with appropriate resolution

Thank you for helping to keep Phabricator swept.

Kind regards

[Wikitech-l] 2016W33 ArchCom-RFC meeting: Revisiting Content model storage

2016-08-15 Thread Rob Lanphier
Hi everyone,

For this week's office hour, we'll be revisiting the 2015 proposal to
change content model storage[1] (see also T105652). The RFC describes
the problems it is solving:

> * The content model and format of a revision is stored as NULL if it
>is the default. This makes changing the default problematic[...]
> * content model and content format are stored as strings
>("wikitext" and "text/x-wiki" respectively) which is inefficient from
>a storage point of view

It then describes some schema changes which hopefully address the problems.

The idea was approved, but was never implemented. Daniel is now
interested in moving this forward to unblock Multi-Content
Revisions[2] (which relies on this).

The discussion is scheduled for 2016-08-17 UTC:
Time: Wednesday 21 UTC (2pm PDT, 23 CEST)
Place: #wikimedia-office
Phab event: [E261][3]

[Wikitech-l] Ladies That FOSS in Germany in looking for MediaWiki mentors!

2016-08-15 Thread Rachel Farrand
Ladies That FOSS is WMDE's first Open Source Hack Event aimed primarily at
women who want to join a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) project but
don’t know where to start. This is a unique opportunity for nonbinary and
woman coders to test out uncharted waters and code FOSS by meeting some
people who already got the FOSS flu and are deeply involved in projects.

So this is how it works. This day will be a one-day hack event where women
get the chance to dive into the FOSS movement and try out projects.
Projects will give women the chance to hack with them on something which
can be accomplished on that day. While hacking, the new women on the team
can get to know the FOSS movement and see what impact they can have.

This is an event which will offer newcomers the opportunity to engage
closely with the projects. Only four to six participants are matched with a
project. A unique chance to get to know some of the coolest projects and
coders out there and become part of the FOSS community. There will be
plenty of time for learning, trying, chatting, eating and *most of all,
coding FOSS*.

We already welcome Wikidata, Mozilla's Firefox Browser, Coala and most
likely Apache - BUT the collaboration is missing MediaWiki! Please contact
us, if you would like to become a MediaWiki mentor and join this event.

Please get in touch with julia.schue...@wikimedia.de and myself if you are
interested and possibly able to help.

Thanks!

[Wikitech-l] Security update for CentralAuth

2016-08-15 Thread Brad Jorsch (Anomie)
A bug[1] was identified in CentralAuth that would allow a user to log in to
a wiki with a reserved or otherwise "unusable" account if that account was
not reserved on another wiki in the CentralAuth cluster.

Patches for supported branches are:
* master (1.28 alpha): https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304856
* REL1_27: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304857
* REL1_26: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304858
* REL1_23: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304861

If you are using an earlier version, you should upgrade your MediaWiki
installation.

Congratulations indeed! In the past months it has been really difficult to
be active in Wikimedia technical spaces and not see Glaisher in action,
always providing answers, feedback and code.
