There's how to contact them. For more details on where they are, you can
consult the ASR. Entity name is Waterway Communications System. Everyone
should download the FCC's GIS CD. There's a lot of valuable information in
there.

Does anyone have a easy, inexpensive way to test a link before a tower
is built? RadioMobile link analysis says I can get backhaul to the
potential location, but in my area trees are always a challenge. I
would like to test it now, while the trees are full, before I commit the
money to build a tower. I am looking at a 120' ANWireless tower, so I
need to be able to test at 100+ feet.

Robert, I would be more concerned about how many packets they can
 process,
 especially on a backhaul.
One or two low use subs, ok, 60 or 70 sub back haul, wouldn't chance it.
 We
use them for sub units, but not for high usage customers.

I'm tempted to buy a couple at 89 bucks per, that is if anyone had some

normally go with a Mikrotik board with a XR5 card. If the specs are

I could possibly do it at half the cost. Any thoughts???

Re: [WISPA] Tower Locations

2009-07-23 Thread Blake Bowers
I have nothing to do with these towers - I have been offered them a couple
of times, but they are not cellular capable so
they don't really fit into a tower companies plans. They are all Rohn 45
and 55 with the exception of the NOLA tower.

They were put up for a two way radio system covering those navigable
waterways for tugboat communications.

Just over a million and you could own all of them.

[WISPA] basic contract for 3rd party company doing installations

2009-07-23 Thread Joe Miller

Does anyone here have a basic contract that they use for a 3rd party to do
installs and service work? I just want to set expectations before any work gets
done. I have a company willing to do installs for me and I want to make sure
that everything is covered.

thanks in advance.

[WISPA] AC/DC power conversion

2009-07-23 Thread Jason Hensley
Anyone know of a board or something similar that has both and AC and a DC
input, will do DC output up to 24v (preferably adjustable but not required),
charges the batteries while AC is on, and has automatic failover to DC
source if AC power goes out?

Thanks!

Re: [WISPA] AC/DC power conversion

2009-07-23 Thread Jason Hensley
We actually have equipment that has a board with it that does serial
communication with a watchdog that also does AC and DC input to 18volt
output. Sweet board, but there are issues with the serial communication,
the price is too high, and it's proprietary so it will only work with this
certain manufacturer's equipment. We need this to install equipment on power
poles and give battery backup while keeping our physical footprint down as
small as possible. Hate to put a UPS on a power / light pole.

Get two AGM 12v trojan batteries wired in series.
Get a tripplite inverter/charger made to have 24v dc input.

Now you have ac out with battery backup and a charger, and 24v dc battery
out.

That's more than you need (due to ups function with ac out) - sounds like a
charger on the battery bank with your radios feeding from it with low
voltage cutoff is all you need. Has anyone done that?

[WISPA] BTOP Reviewer Call Request

2009-07-23 Thread Rick Harnish
To All,

I received this request today from the Department of Commerce. I am passing
it along as requested.

Thanks,

Rick Harnish

Call for Reviewers

Broadband Technology Opportunities Program

Help America Advance its National Objective of Broadband Access for All

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the
U.S. Department of Commerce is soliciting experts to evaluate grant
proposals for the $4.7 billion Broadband Technology Opportunities Program
(BTOP), an important part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of
2009.

NTIA is accepting applications for its first round of BTOP grants from July
14, 2009 until August 14, 2009, and will conduct panel reviews through at
least the end of September, 2009. As a reviewer, your evaluations will be an
important factor considered by NTIA in determining whether to award grant
funding. To be considered as a reviewer you must have significant expertise
and experience in at least one of the following areas: 1) the design,
funding, construction, and operation of broadband networks or public
computer centers; 2) broadband-related outreach, training, or education; and
3) innovative programs to increase the demand for broadband services. In
addition you must agree to comply with Department of Commerce policies on
conflict of interest and confidentiality.

We are committed to ensuring that reviewers come from diverse backgrounds
and areas of the United States. Please feel free to circulate this Call for
Reviewers to other individuals or organizations that may be sources of
qualified reviewers.

To apply to be a panel reviewer for BTOP, please email a resume containing
the information below to btopreview...@ntia.doc.gov:

-Name

-Residence (city and state)

-Email/phone number

-Employer Position/Title

-Years and types of experience and positions in fields related to BTOP
activities

NTIA will examine and approve reviewer applications on a first-come,
first-served basis. Approved reviewers will be contacted to schedule
participation in a webinar orientation session and teleconference panel
reviews.

Although there will be no direct reimbursement for your time and expertise,
you may be assured that you will be making a significant contribution to
enhancing broadband services throughout the United States. We appreciate the
valuable contribution you will be making to the success of BTOP and look
forward to working with you as a reviewer. If you have questions, please
send them by email to: btopreview...@ntia.doc.gov. For additional
information, please see http://www.broadbandusa.gov/

I have nothing to do with these towers - I have been offered them a couple
of times, but they are not cellular capable so
they don't really fit into a tower companies plans. They are all Rohn 45
and 55 with the exception of the NOLA tower.

They were put up for a two way radio system covering those navigable
waterways for tugboat communications.

Just over a million and you could own all of them.

Almost all are on leased land. They must stay up at least
2 years, free space to the seller for their equipment, then either
continue on at fair market rates, or not.
