Re: [WISPA] Facebook ads

2017-01-19 Thread Mark Steckel
Agree that both FB and Google are required.

I also understand their different place in the funnel.

My question should have been more explicit. So...

How does FB compare to other methods of advertising from an ROI stand point?
What about time of ad spend to lead generation for the different advertising
channels?

Advanced ping looks like a winner. Up/down monitoring and bandwidth monitoring
only goes so far to know whats going on. Smokeping doesn't scale really well

Apples vs Oranges

On a high level:

Facebook creates demand (top of funnel) as it is a more contextually driven
native experience (think stumbling into relevant offers as you scroll
through your news feed)

Google captures demand (middle of funnel), as it is based off of some
derivative of search

There's a lot more too this if you want to dive into the nitty gritty...

I haven’t been doing it for WISPs, but I spent close to $1 million in FB ads
last month for various CPG related initiatives

There are a few new products that we’re using to start to drive offline
in-store sales, between that and the shift towards mobile, been actually
thinking about how to apply that into the WISP industry

Check out: https://www.facebook.com/business/news/dynamic-ads-for-retail-launch

Happy to have a conversation on this…

I've got a CCR1036 running on 6.32.3 for 453 days, hasn't missed a beat. (last

We have 100+ CCR1009 as CPE out there running OSPF+BGP+LDP+MPLS. 6.26 was a
little wonky but ever since about 6.29 no issues. Several of them pass over
800M for several hours a day every day.

I was kind of thinking along those lines but with cable. Rope would
probably be cheaper, but make sure to get something that won't rot.

Re: [WISPA] Best cat5 for a monopole

2017-01-19 Thread David Hannum
We have 12 monopoles from 150' to 195'. We are using this:

http://www.primuscable.com/store/p/9117-CAT-6-Ethernet-Cable-Shielded-Aerial-w/-Messenger-Wire-Solid-23-AWG.aspx

We've also learned that stringing the cables to a rope, and strapping them
every 20' or so and then hanging the rope at the top to relieve strain
increase the life expectancy. The 90' you are talking about might not be
too bad for dangling, but at 195' we've learned that over time, it causes
problems. Also, the messenger wire used as a ground on this cable is great
for BH's. Especially the Mimosa B5's which really like a ground run to the
bottom. If you need extra cables, you just hang a new rope. We've also
contrived a pulley system for taking the rig to the top. While we've not
deployed it yet, we are planning to this coming spring once tower weather
returns.

I haven’t been doing it for WISPs, but I spent close to $1 million in FB ads
last month for various CPG related initiatives

There are a few new products that we’re using to start to drive offline

thinking about how to apply that into the WISP industry
