I thought GFCI's were to protect circuits from moisture mainly, AFAIK they do not provide any type of protection for devices other than cutting the circuit if it senses a ground fault. We are using Linksys e1000s and WRT54GS2’s without any trouble. Make sure you have the keep alive going in the router when you setup the PPPOE connection, I have seen that cause problems in the past.
