In their defense, in some areas, it is quite a bitch to cross a road. A nearby county requires steel conduit 6' below the road surface, only perpendicular, etc. etc. - Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com - Original Message - From: Mike Lyon mike.l...@gmail.com To: WISPA General List wireless@wispa.org Sent: Saturday, November 8, 2014 11:15:32 AM Subject: Re: [WISPA] Anyone serving Pompey NY? Re: [WISPA] Anyone serving Pompey NY? PR for WISPA
I wanted to chime in and add this: Installing new underground facilities to off-net customers does cost a TON of money. Boring, trenching, etc, to install underground facilities is incredibly expensive. Permits, machinery, and labor alone are massive portions of the cost. Materials (conduit, coax/fiber, equipment) in some cases is almost insignificant since it's such a small portion of the project. From what I can tell, Comcast seems to almost always run their lines in their own conduit too. That means the cost to build to a new building may very well be extremely high. But it's Comcast's decision to do it this way, and by doing so they keep the pricing very high as Mike said. We have many customers who have shared similar stories of Comcast quoting $30-150k for a build out to a business location. Funny because Comcast around here will run a mile of underground for nothing, just to get the deal.
