I believe T-Mobile has that [EMAIL PROTECTED] is the brand.

  Yup. UMA using Kineto equipment.

Handover works well as long as you're not moving too fast. :)

[WISPA] GSM - WiFi handover

2008-04-18 Thread Rogelio
Is GMS to WiFi (and vise versa) handover possible? I googled to see, but
didn't really find out how or why...

Look for FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence).

The 3GPP standards are:
- UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access)
- I-WLAN (Interworking WLAN)

If you want true voice handover, that would be VCC (Voice Call
Continuity),
although a VoIP call (e.g. SIP) only needs data session continuity.

For a more data-centric approach, look for Mobile-IP.

Rogelio-

I believe T-Mobile has that service.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the brand.

I looked at it myself for a couple minutes, but their coverage in my
area over all isn't great.

Thanks,

Re: [WISPA] GSM - WiFi handover

2008-04-18 Thread Tom Warfield

Look for a Digi 3G WAN router.

GSM, evdo, or whatever. Supports all the major players and even has non
carrier specific.

Be advised though. Unless your positive you can get the faster speeds don't
waste your money.

Best way to tell is use your cellphone. For example my ATT phone shows 3G
service at my house. On my phone I can pull down 1mb, so the Digi router when
installed pulled down the same.

I have deployed 3 or 4 of the Digi boxes. Also used the cisco 3G wic card in a
2811. As long as your possitive about coverage then it will rock! VOIP even
rocks!
