The recent thoughtful and lively discussions about WISP use of TV White
Space underscores more than ever the need for effective WISPA advocacy
with Congress and with the FCC. I want to take this opportunity to
update all of you on how the work of WISPA's FCC Committee is progressing.

First, I want to express my thanks and my gratitude to the following
WISPA members who have recently volunteered (or in some cases
"re-enlisted") to work on one or more of the new FCC Committee Workgroups.

NOTE 1: If you were (or are) a member of the FCC Committee but you don't
see your name on the above list, please contact me as soon as possible
to let me know that you are still interested in playing an active role
on the Committee.

NOTE 2: Participation on the FCC Committee IS limited to WISPA members.
If you would like to participate and if you have been thinking of
joining, this would be a good time to sign up as either a Vendor,
Principal or Associate member here <http://signup.wispa.org/>. If you
have questions about membership, please direct them to the WISPA Board
here <http://contact.wispa.org/>.

Although most of the following twelve new Workgroups now have at least
two and in some cases as many as eight members we still need more help.
Please take a look at the following Workgroup list and let me know if
you can participate in at least one of the these new Workgroups.

Calendaring and Minutes
Level Playing Field
Engineering
TV Whitespace
3650 MHz
2.5 GHz Whitespace
Pole Attachment
Network Management and Network Neutrality
Spectrum Etiquette
Congressional Liaison
FCC Liaison
Writing

The two Workgroups most in need of assistance are the "Calendaring and
Minutes" and the "Pole Attachment" Workgroups. If you can help with one
of these or if you want more details about the specific role of any
Workgroup then please send me an email or give me a call.

WISPA listservs have been created for each Workgroup and they will be
populated by the end of the day Monday, June 2nd. Each Workgroup will
work independently however the entire Committee will meet online twice
each month where we will coordinate, communicate and assist each another
to address the many issues that extend across Workgroup lines. The
initial online meetings will be via IRC (hosted by Mt. Vernon Net). In
the future, we anticipate migrating the twice-monthly online meeting
from IRC to a conference call, hosted by WISPA.

Regarding the much anticipated FCC trip, the WISPA Board and the FCC
Committee have been budgeting and planning for this trip for several
months. The recent on-list discussions about the TV Whitespace spectrum
have been very helpful in both addressing relevant technical issues and
in providing increased focus to help WISPA develop a clear, positive and
beneficial position to present to the FCC. A lot of additional
coordination, policy formation and presentation development work still
remains to be done. Next week I anticipate that this work will be handed
off to the new TV Whitespace Workgroup and then to the new FCC Liaison
Workgroup. For now, please continue to share your thoughts and ideas on
TV Whitespace and other important spectrum issues using the either the
FCC Committee listserv ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or the FCC Discussion
listserv ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or by emailing me directly. Let me know if you
are an FCC Committee member and you need to be subscribed to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] listserv. Anyone can subscribe themselves to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] listserv.

Again, my thanks to those of you who have stepped up to play an
important role in WISPA's industry lobbying effort. If you have not yet
stepped up, we still need you and we want you to play an active,
positive role. We have plenty of room for every WISPA member who wants
to learn, to work and to share in our success.

Respectfully,

Jack Unger
Chair - FCC Committee
