Re: [WISPA] Stimulus money creating jobs in MO

2010-08-17 Thread St. Louis Broadband
Actually they are to create 1,300 construction jobs on this project. We of
course know the area very well, since we engineered six of their counties
they were awarded.

We are working with one of the most reputable local builders in area (they
built most of the schools, hospitals, etc.) and we are both astonished about
the amount of jobs. From my understanding, the only construction this
company is doing is tower sites, I have been told that they are renting
offices and using existing facilities for NOC.

We are building a NOC, offices, warehouse, and of course tower sites and
could not come up with more than 300 jobs. We did however contract with a
'remote' call center to bring in 750 new jobs with benefits. J

The broadband stimulus package had "increasing access to broadband" as a
primary goal, and "creating jobs" was at best a second-order effect. If the
primary goal were to create jobs or reduce unemployment, yes, there are many
more cost-effective ways to do so, but that wasn't the point of that little
part of the 2009 stimulus bill.
