I would like to welcome an old friend here to WISPA membership. Many of you
have known Patrick Leary for years as a friend of the WISP industry. Patrick
has recently joined forces with Aperto Networks. Today Aperto Networks is a
Vendor Member of WISPA and Patrick Leary as their representative within our
membership. Please join me in welcoming Patrick Leary and Aperto Networks as
WISPA's newest Vendor Member. Here is a little information about Aperto
Networks straight from Patrick Leary:

Aperto is very proud to join WISPA, the premier voice and advocacy
organization for WISPs. In celebration, we will later today offer a special
WISPA-members only WiMAX promotion that will make it easy for any WISP to
give a top WiMAX solution a try.

Aperto Networks is the only home grown and U.S.- based WiMAX equipment
provider. As an 802.16 pioneer, Aperto was founded in 1999 solely to make
and offer outdoor wireless broadband solutions using 802.16. It provided
signficant key technology that created the 802.16 standard and is a charter
member of the WiMAX Forum. Aperto's entire product line is WiMAX-based and
it provides solutions in all 5 GHz bands, the 4.9 GHz public safety band,
3.65 GHz, the 2.5 GHz BRS/EBS bands and a range of international bands
centered around 3.5 GHz. With over 25 link-optimizing patents or
patents-pending that comprise Aperto's secret-sauce, Aperto offers the
highest QoS than any WiMAX system, as well as packet per second more than
twice other solutions. These and Aperto's cost-effective products, make the
systems ideal for voice and data double play WISP business models.

The Aperto of today is easy to do business with. Our WISP effort has the
support and commitment of the entire Aperto executive team and we've
re-structured to serve North America. We hope you'll give us a fair hearing
as you move forward in your businesses. You can reach us at

VoIP offers a road map for WISPs to offer the double play to their
customers. I have been thinking for a long time that I will need to partner
with someone to help me put together my telephony offerings to my customers.
I am guessing a fair number of my customers will look to me for their
telephone needs when I decide to offer it. I am glad to see Alianza step up
as a Vendor Member to offer these services to WISPs. With this email we
formally welcome Alianza to WISPA and thank them for their support of our

Please welcome another new WISPA Vendor Member - ValuePoint Networks.
For many of us the challenge of meeting the goals of delivering the
hotspot, hospitality, MDU and Muni Wi-Fi markets is a bit outside our
normal realm. We are used to owning our infrastructure and selling
Internet connections to a fixed customer base. The model of the Wi-Fi
hotspot is now becoming a bigger part of our business. I am glad to
see ValuePoint come on board with WISPA to help us meet these
challenges and add these revenue opportunities to our bottom line. I
know I am getting more requests every day from restaurants, hotels,
city government, etc. to deliver solutions to them. I plan to call on
ValuePoint for help in these areas of expertise and hope you will do
the same. Here is a little information from David Grissom of ValuePoint:

ValuePoint Networks supports hundreds of service and solution
providers world-wide by providing a complete line of rugged,
powerful, and highly reliable wireless products designed with the
solution provider in mind. Simply put, ValuePoint's products do the
job the others cannot, and for a price the others cannot match.

Founded in 2002 to develop products designed specifically for
hotspots and other public access venues, ValuePoint has quickly
become a leader in this burgeoning space, and has expanded into other
markets as well, such as industrial, WISP, MTU/MDU, and municipalities.

With Rugged Access Points, Advanced Gateway Controllers, and Mesh
Routers, shipping since early 2003, ValuePoint Networks' products are
deployed today in thousands of venues around the world.

Hotels, marinas, shopping malls, RV parks, MTUs, MDUs, and virtually
every imaginable location are operated using ValuePoint Networks'
renowned SuperAP, MultiAP, SuperMesh, and Gateway Controller products.

ValuePoint offers our customers superior solutions at much lower
price points, thereby minimizing your up-front capital investment.

Waverider is back and from appearances they are on stronger footing now
than they have ever been. Many of you probably remember Scott Carlson from
Waverider. Scott has been a big part of the Waverider product line from my
first experiences with them many years ago. Scott has remained aligned
with this product through the two owners in the last couple of years. I
think we will see that Vecima Networks will be the permanent home to the
Waverider product line and we hope to see many new years of growth and
improvement in this and other product lines through Vecima Networks. I
have used Waverider products in my network for many years with good
success. I am looking forward to seeing the migration to the new higher
speed OFDM version of the Waverider product coming soon. Our newest WISPA
Vendor Member is Vecima Networks and we welcome them to the Association.
Here are a few words about Vecima Networks from Scott Carlson himself:

Vecima Networks Inc. is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of
broadband wireless, data-over-cable, digital video and advanced analog
solutions. Vecima’s own brand name products have achieved a reputation in
the marketplace for innovation, design, quality and performance. As a
result many broadband industry leaders have turned to Vecima for
engineering and manufacturing expertise. Vecima’s customer base includes
original equipment manufacturers (OEM), system integrators and leading
multiple system operators (MSO), WISPs and other service providers. Since
its inception in 1988, Vecima has grown to over 620 employees and has
demonstrated consistent profitable growth.

Vecima offers a number of broadband wireless solutions. The BWIN product
line is based on DOCSIS and is available for the 700 MHz, 1.9 GHz, 2.5
GHz, 3.5 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. The VistaMAX product line, is
Vecima’s WiMAX based solution. VistaMAX has been launched for the 3.5 GHz
band, and versions for the 5 GHz and 1.9 GHz band are due to be released
later this year. In October 2006, Vecima acquired the WaveRider 900 MHz
product line from Wave Wireless. Since that time Vecima has committed
financial and engineering resources for the development and support of the
WaveRider product line. Shortly Vecima will be launching the
next-generation WaveRider system, which will be the leading 900 MHz
performer in terms of throughput and capacity.

I would like to take this
opportunity to introduce a new WISPA Vendor Member to our organization. Optivon
http://www.optivon.com/ has paid
their dues and has made it official. They want to work with all of the WISP
industry and help support our efforts through WISPA. I am sure I speak for us
all in welcoming them to WISPA. If you have a desire to offer VOIP for your
customers then consider giving Optivon a shot at your business. After all, they
are the first VOIP vendor to actually build their business plan around working
with WISPs like you and support our association. I will be talking to them for
my own network's VOIP needs. I hope you all do the same. Here is some
information about Optivon:

Optivon is a facilities
based VoIP applications services provider located in

Tampa, FL and San
 Juan, Puerto Rico. We provide
hosted services to local exchange carriers, wireless Internet service
providers, and other carriers.

Our hosted services include IP Centrex/Hosted
PBX, Residential VoIP, IP Trunking and other applications. Through various
providers, we can offer a very large nationwide local footprint of DID and toll
free numbers with E911 service. If you prefer, for increased margins, we can
work with you in helping you operate your own local PSTN connections. This is
especially attractive for internationally based carriers. We also offer you
attractive domestic and international termination rates.

Through our CLEC subsidiary in Puerto
Rico, we can provide DID origination and termination.
Our platform is based on a carrier class tandem softswitch and a Tekelec 6000
(formerly Vocal Data) applications service platform, which is located in a
bunker type central office facility for increased network
reliability.

We have a good understanding of wireless data
networks, having operated one. Among our customers for hosted VoIP services are
a WISP in Tampa that is
expanding into Atlanta and
South Florida, another in Connecticut,
and one that has 2,500 radios installed in Puerto Rico.
We provide service to the largest telephone operating company in the World and
to small WISP operators.

Different than other providers, Optivon is
prepared to work with you providing not only the VoIP services, but also sales
and engineering support to help you succeed.

Also, we will not compete against you. We
only sell our services in the USA through
carriers.

Re: [WISPA] New WISPA Vendor Member

2006-07-15 Thread Matt Liotta
I always find it suspect when I see statements that don't name names.
Who is this WISP in PR? I know of two WISPs in PR and neither have
said they have a relationship with this company. I'd certainly be
interested in knowing who this WISP is in Tampa that is supposedly
expanding into Atlanta. As far as I know, Rapid Systems is the only
interesting WISP in Tampa and Dustin never mentioned this company
when I was recently discussing VoIP with him.

Anyway, my position remains that operators should not enter into
private label agreements with VoIP providers. Almost all of these
companies operate over the internet, which means QoS can't be
ensured. Further, if the VoIP provider has problems, the operator in
question can't fix them since they have no control over the service.
I believe if an operator wants to sell VoIP service to their
customers then the operator should run their own voice switch. That
voice switch can be connected to any number of wholesale termination
and origination providers to enable the service. Should there be a
problem with a voice upstream then that operator can simply use
someone else without their customers be effected.

said they have a relationship with this company.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce a new WISPA
Vendor Member to our organization. Optivon http://www.optivon.com/
has paid their dues and has made it official. They want to work
with all of the WISP industry and help support our efforts through
WISPA. I am sure I speak for us all in welcoming them to WISPA. If
you have a desire to offer VOIP for your customers then consider
giving Optivon a shot at your business. After all, they are the
first VOIP vendor to actually build their business plan around
working with WISPs like you and support our association. I will be
talking to them for my own network's VOIP needs. I hope you all do
the same. Here is some information about Optivon:

Optivon is a facilities based VoIP applications services provider
 located in

Tampa, FL and San Juan, Puerto Rico. We provide hosted services to
local exchange carriers, wireless Internet service providers, and
 other carriers.

Our hosted services include IP Centrex/Hosted PBX, Residential
VoIP, IP Trunking and other applications. Through various
providers, we can offer a very large nationwide local footprint of
DID and toll free numbers with E911 service. If you prefer, for
increased margins, we can work with you in helping you operate your
own local PSTN connections. This is especially attractive for
internationally based carriers. We also offer you attractive
 domestic and international termination rates.

Through our CLEC subsidiary in Puerto Rico, we can provide DID
origination and termination. Our platform is based on a carrier
class tandem softswitch and a Tekelec 6000 (formerly Vocal Data)
applications service platform, which is located in a bunker type
central office facility for increased network reliability.

We have a good understanding of wireless data networks, having
operated one. Among our customers for hosted VoIP services are a
WISP in Tampa that is expanding into Atlanta and South Florida,
another in Connecticut, and one that has 2,500 radios installed in
Puerto Rico. We provide service to the largest telephone operating
company in the World and to small WISP
