RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] Fwd: Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] 802.11n phased deployment approaches

2010-06-03 Thread Johnson, Neil M

Meru's recommendation is a building at time.

There are differences between the handling of Meru's Virtual Cell technology
with the a/b/g (AP 200) and the N (AP 300) AP's.

You can still use the same ESSID for both radios, you just need to put the
300's in what Meru calls a separate "ESS profile" from the AP 208's.

This means that there will be a hard hand-off between the 208's and the 300's
rather than utilizing Meru's virtual cell roaming.

What we are doing for our wireless expansion is replacing the 208's with 300's
if we have to install 50% more AP's in the building. We are then using the
surplus 208's to finish covering buildings where we are installing < 50% more
AP's in the building. We will replace those 208's on our next refresh cycle.

I should have been more specific - I was talking about Meru ...sorry about that!

I agree with Jim...I think you can do it, it's just more work and more

room for error

For example, if you are going to have APs within hearing distance of

each other with different band configurations (like b/g vs b/g/n) they

need to be on separate ESS profiles

at least that's my understanding...
