Is the 5508 still under the control of the same relatively non-transparent operating system? Can we see/manipulate flash or firmware/config files, and monitor processes? I agree that from the code perspective, Airespace really hasn't been integrated well yet after the Cisco purchase- would be nice to see some gains here. On the 5508, would have been nice in some respects if it was a 300-AP unit, to be a one-for-one WiSM replacement (yeah, you can argue that the WiSM is actually two 150-AP controllers). Lee H. For some reason I was under the impression that the 5508 can support up to 500 aps based on the licensing you obtain. Originally it did support 500 APs. Through a code change this number was reduced to 250 because of some errors when approaching 500, but the beta hardware had a 6 core cpu, not the 10 core that's in the final version.
