In rev 46945, I've checked in a change to make the post-install script remove
old plugins.  Hopefully, that'll fix this; I've propagated the fix to the 1.8
branch, so 1.8.5 should, if installed atop a pre-1.8 release *or* a misbehaving
1.8 installation, fix this.
