Re: G
A fine and spirited response, thank you, Dan. I don't know that I'm the best person on this list to respond to this, but I do think it asks for a response, and I'm not sure anyone else will, so I'll take a whack at it. But I also sorta like Alex's post. It engages with the work, for one thing. For another thing, it reminds me of poetry in the use of language. And it brought up some thoughts such as - Can criticism be poetry? What is the role of criticism in new/experimental writing? What would experimental criticism, as a counterpart to experimental writing, look like? Should criticism be more like callresponse in form? Is criticism collaboration? Experimental writing doesn't mean there aren't differences of opinion or taste after all. CatherinE There's no spirit in anything I see, here. It's so detached, one might say, that its minutia. It could have been made by something other than a man, and yet the reader still pleads to belong to some form of human connection. Seems disagreeable, something I gotta ask myself, and I don't have the answer, but seems to me only poets should write poems, reclaiming that thousand-year-old tree. Re: Paper's 'wikitorial' trial halted
Like weblogs, wikis have started to become popular online as people find new ways to create and experiment with reader-generated content. I recently started a wiki for a poetry community (stamfordwrites.org). The site hasn't failed yet, but neither has it really caught on (community is a web-shy one, I think). It's the third incarnation of this site and most of the material there comes from previous incarnations. It's based on tiki wiki (which is a great open source product). I can see why the wiki concept is dicey with newspapers, but it seems perfect for poetry and etc. I'm surprised I haven't run into more wikis in literary-type surfing. CatherinE
