I demand myself how I apply for various of the same qualities you
mention about yourself, except for the fact I as great as A. Sondheim.

BTW I also had a band in the 80s... Guess it was kind of a obligatory
thing... in 60s or 80s. Someone could trace back the history of
contemporary art in terms of artists (poets, actors, fine artists etc)

Stardust Mission Status Report


NASA's Stardust spacecraft was placed into hibernation mode
yesterday. Stardust successfully returned to Earth samples of a comet
via its sample return capsule on Jan. 15. The spacecraft has logged
almost seven years of flight.



We sang our spacecraft to sleep today
with a melody of digital ones and zeros, said Tom Duxbury, Stardust
project manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif.
Stardust has performed flawlessly these last seven years and 2.88
billion miles and deserves a rest for a while, like the rest of the
team."



The song was actually a series of
commands that was sent up to the spacecraft yesterday, Jan. 29 at 4
p.m. Pacific time (7 p.m. Eastern time). The commands deactivated all
but a few essential systems, such as Stardust's solar arrays and
receive antenna – which will remain powered on. This long-term
hibernation state could allow for almost indefinite (tens of years)
out-of-contact operations while maintaining the spacecraft health.



Placing Stardust in hibernation gives
us options to possibly reuse it in the future, said Dr. Tom Morgan,
Stardust Program Executive at NASA Headquarters, Washington. The
mission has already been a great success, but if at all possible we may
want to add even more scientific dividends to this remarkable mission's
record of achievement.



The Stardust spacecraft is currently in
an orbit that travels from a little closer to the Sun than that of the
Earth to well beyond the orbit of Mars. It will next fly past Earth on
January 14, 2009, at a distance of about 1 million kilometers (621,300
miles).



NASA's Stardust sample return mission
successfully concluded its prime mission on Jan. 15, 1006, when its
sample return capsule carrying cometary and interstellar particles
successfully touched down at 2:10 a.m. Pacific time (3:10 a.m. Mountain
time) in the desert salt flats of the Utah Test and Training Range.



Stardust scientists at NASA's Johnson
Space Center in Houston are currently analyzing what could be
considered a treasure-trove of cometary and interstellar dust samples
that exceeded their grandest expectations. Scientists believe these
precious samples will help provide answers to fundamental questions
about comets and the origins of the solar system.

Pasadena, Calif., manages the Stardust mission for NASA's Science
Mission Directorate, Washington. Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Denver,
developed and operated the spacecraft.

Yes, the quality of real media file is beyond something good. It is
just a register from the brief (quite brief) presentation of
Schwitter's poem during the program. It is good to mention that this TV
program happened to pe a reenacting of a first one, from the 80s,
called Fabrica do Som (Sound Factory) which was anchored by the
performer and poet Tadeu Jungle. At that time, most of the new
brazilian bands (such as Titans, Paralamas do Sucesso, Legiao Urbana
and others) alongside with names like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil all
presented at the saturday afternoon show. The place where it was
recorded was also important: it was SESC Pompeia, a cultural center
designed by Lina Bo Bardi, the same architect that made MASP (Museum of
Sao Paulo), one of the most strange builidings in the world...

Sondheim is a multi-media artist working in written text, video,

and image. For the past twelve years he has been continuously writing

meditation on what it means to be online -- a meditation that

I think you've got the point, Lawrence. Digital era enters the gates of afluent
semiosphere in the measure we are changing our evidences of the so called
empyrical reality to signs digitally encoded that can multiply this same
reality. The only problem is processing speedness and goot conversors.

Dear fellas
I am preparing the ultimate version of Safe 1.0 a fake OS based on Power Point
presentations, and one of the applications carries a panorama, showing all the
images of the desktops sent to the list in october 2004 (remember?) I´ve lost
the track of all the participants but I really would like to mention all the
names.
Some of the ones I was able to find were: Allan, Lehmus, mIEKAL, Cyrill Duneau,
M. Palmer, Lanny Quarles and ??? If there is someone more, please, let me know.
My aim is to put this work at FILE, Electronic Festival. It will be submitted to
a selection but if anyone of the senders decide to do not authorize it, I will
understand and put it out immediately.

FILE - Electronic Language International Festival is opening registrations for
its 6th edition. It will be held at SESI Paulista's cultural space, in Sao
Paulo, Brazil, from October 3rd to 22nd, 2005. Call for entries are open from
march 17th to May 1st, 2005. Submissions are free and open to professionals,
researchers and students of the electronic language.

In the last five years, FILE has shown what’s been happening in the global
networks related to digital and electronic arts, becoming a reference for
studies and research on new media. It has exhibited web art, net art,
artificial life, hypertext, computer animation, real time teleconference,
virtual reality, soft art, games, interactive movies, e-videos, digital
panoramas and electronic art installations and robotics, through interactive
and immersive rooms.

FILE-SYMPOSIUM has become a meeting point in the city of São Paulo, proposing
discussions and tackling the electronic-digital culture in its relations to
art, science and technologies.

FILE Hipersônica, the festival's sonorous branch, is on it’s 3rd edition and
intends to elaborate connections between the world of images, the world of
sonorities and the world of texts. Sound installations and real time
performances will be presented by a number of groups and collectives,
comprising both erudite and pop electronic music, but also electronic
compositions, sound poetry, radio art, video music and sonic landscapes, as
well as Djs and VJs presenting their sets through specific apparatus and
installations with experimental and immersive projections.
