The Last King of Scotland
A powerful thriller that recreates on screen the world of Uganda under the mad dictatorship of Idi Amin. Deftly mixing fact and fiction and startlingly resonant with today's world, the film features a tour de force performance from Forest Whitaker as Amin.

Mars Is Simply a Decor (ation) for My Hypnagogic Estate Tax

:Salutations!

:+ On a recent travel to a thrift store, I picked up an older print
on canvas titled, 32. Martian Dunes, which was apparently sold by
: Solar Gallery LTD. in Michigan.
:+ (I bought it in Denver, Colorado, for a few dollars. Anyway,
moving on ...)
:+ My guess is that it's an image taken by Viking, but I wondered if
anyone could help me determine more about the print (specifically,
: what I'm looking at - and where - on Mars.)
:+ It's a nice, professionally-framed print (also in a nice frame)
-- and vague in its subject matter (haven't been able to find
: anything :out about it on the Internet, really.)
:+ Thanks for your time, if you can assist me; just doing a little
research --

2006-09-15 Thread Brent Bechtel

Dear Chris,

Wow, thanks for digging that up for me. It looked very similar to photos
(I think) that I have seen in National Geographic from that time ... I'm
going to guess that this was August 3, 1976.

It's a neat image. Now, why a small (and apparently defunct) company in
the middle of Michigan would have made prints of it, I don't know. Seems
unusual. (?) Tourist item? Nah. Seems more like it belongs in a
classroom or such ... ?

Oh and ... It's OK if we flip the planet ... I mean, it's not like
anyone is going to go there one day and find out it was all backwards ...

Aha, aha.

patriots' act Re: Snakes in the Shell

2006-09-15 Thread Unpoet
lewis, i see u have an illustration of the patriot's act. maybe santa's version vision will further illustrate ur thoughts david

SANTAS' TREASON? WHY JOHNNY IS A NON-BELIEVER!

oh, how greatly i wanted a sled for my 9th birthday, that last birthday before my father became an Army Chaplain and the peacefilled world of sunnyside was lost in military buildup... we moved from the little community and never again in my childhood would we live where i might use my sled. in 1942 my sunnyside playmates were incarcerated for being "yellow."

today, even-ing thoughts and prayers for my immanent anniversary of 70 solar revolutions, i wonder, i wonder as i have wandered thru years, decades, and scores, how innocently i have abhorred war and become a sainted peacelet. today i had a letter from a filosopher friend, email is a miracle of modernity. it moves us from ages of struggle for simple survival to a new epoch, struggle for complex survival. yet, ever, still, since, now, when, where, why, as the childness in me wonders and wanders thru memories long past, present presence, and future fullness to awe and audacity. in the higher echelons of the government of the united states of america, the very faith of decency and difference are being challenged, are being smeared with the fears of full and unmitigated "treason." a mystical, even ominous 13 years ago, i was confounded, quickly compromised, conscripted, registered and committed to endless, profoundly subversive, devious, secret, covert work. i was identified as that most incredible thief of children's affections, i was called santa... i was burdened with unaccustomed labors and asked to breach the locked security of the homes and treasured institutions of friends, neighbors, relatives and strangers... i was to labor under the ruse of knowing everyone's name and to feign knowledge when i was ignorant, i was to bear false witness--covering up for naughtiness and badness, and i was to keep secret records. i was allowed to collect any kind of information i wanted, on anyone, and expected to keep total biofiles... not even my most trusted colleagues were to be taken into my confidence...

j. edgar hoover was a paragon of power in his daze, yet in the daze, weaks, months, years, decades and decadence, scores and scoring of my global travel and work, i was unchecked in power, prestige, and most criminally of all, in the popular culture, i was assigned the task of convincing billions of human being that i was a chubby old man who worked rarely and did not care for people beyond the age of my having them duped. all in all, that was bad enuf, but worse, parents like the likes of Johnny would deprecate my goodness, counter treason, i believe, by threatening kidlets with the idea that i was a disciplinarian. "better watch out, better not cry, for i am telling you why." heresy confronts my treason! so, even if i light but one candle, fill but one hope or keep faith with only one dying child. i am treasonous. for hundreds and hundreds of years, almost two thousand years, people have known that my magic is not cruel. so, if my dissent from the common current of "fighting terrorism," is treason, please bring me to trial...by a jury of my peers. secretly, like keeping a santas' list, i doubt that johnny can find a jury of my peers. i appear like a bearded old man with a bag full of gifts spreading joy and peace. johnny and his peers may sum day learn that, to the question, "santa, are you real?" i always reply without any fear of false witness, mohammed, , virginia, YES, i am real..." guilty as charged, overcharged. peace, santa Click Here: The Ashcroft Smear (washingtonpost.com)

2006-09-15 Thread Allen Bramhall
it must be admitted that the living room is smaller than the
mountaintop. the view is of a tree or something so close. snow loses
eagerness at this warm level and season, so nothing shrouds that taste
of beginning, even when it ends. the room feels lost in murmurs, people
sound their grief. grief seems so farfetched. it vacates unexpectedly,
then isolates, then joins, then provides other images in the gloaming. a
tide of green sea glides into the memory of standing somewhere. a warm
protection under a vast beech tree secures a finality, when finality
arrives. too much information, except then a love occurs that can't find
a single word, out of all the collected sizes in array. but slip back to
the mountaintop, as decorative as poetry, that peculiarly near
mountaintop with sopping clouds assuming instinct in stunningly low
altitude beneath the feet that climbed high. the big nowhere confronts
the turgid gulf. not a simple task can remain. the expedition now feels
a deference towards getting down to the valley. the valley could prop
one up, so far away yet once a home of sorts. now back to the living
room, where voices clutch but isn't that a sentence? sentences realize
moments in lists needed to be read. trouble crosses the room, but it
drops tears worth love. and love stands worth astounding. love? can that
be a word in all its vitality, or just a fantastic slogan, or even a
seagull in some mysterious flight? read the lines that stretch between
us, if this passing acquaintance remains undaunted. more than ever love
strays into the abode that language allows. struggle on, struggle on...
he didn't want to leave.

Performance text, 123 Pleasant Street, BIOS conference, after equipment
hassles

Dance is Dead. Dead Men Can't Dance. Dance is Sex. Scan-Dance. Un-Dance.
Dance is an Asylum. I want to thank everyone with two feet who has
contributed to this. I'm not sure exactly what I should be showing here.
There are too many files... I'm sorry... maybe I should go home

hello hello - I had other plans for this - using the mic here but it's too
loud - so bear with me - At the moment this isn't going anywhere - these
are hmmm... mappings of a dancer's body - in this space - this is going
nowhere - hold on can someone get me a drink!? this was to be a
performance falling apart now it seems more like falling apart as a
performance hello hello no mic here - weird somewhere I hear speaking thru
here - well on the right is Maud dancing and on the left is a mapping of a
dancer following Maud in a manner similar to the avatar but the dancer is
live but the fuck I forget wait a moment the dancer is hmmm...

well the dancer was using motion capture equipment and was therefore fed
into hmmm... fuck it I forget the dancer was fed into mocap and thru that
into bvh and that was imported into blender and then hmmm then the nodes
of the body of the real dancer were mapped into 4-space and so what you
see here are objects indicating the movements of a dancer imitating a
dancer imitated by an avatar but a mapping which in fact indicates the
tension of the originary body here you have what time is it wait I need
some whisky (case you don't know it I don't drink) well Foofwa did a
number I think he was smashed that's an Alpine zither that's a performer
in a movie I made using the Access Grid who doesn't not the access grd but
the performer know she's in a movie yes indeedie that's harmonica fuck was
going to play that live for you too but needed the mic which is now
unplugged and lying around somewhere I actually had a lot to say
about this stuff related to E-poetry so what I can say now is fuck
e-poetry the only thing that should be around is fuck-poetry f-poetry why
this is entirely new and already a fucking canon is forming people are
included people are excluded were all fucking Jews here beyond the Pale hi
Maria.

this is really really going nowhere by the way Maud was choreographed by
Foofwa more later at the talk tomorrow too long to explain here - that's F
dancing on what looks like a roof but isn't well it's Geneva that's whats'
important we work together wait there should be a text somewhere around
here, probably lost in the melee - in that battle someone got hurt I think
all those fucking ninja

now something nice
see i can be so gentle you wouldn't believe it
now some lightning hold on
fireworlsc

fireworks coming up you can't get enough of a good thing when you don't
know what you're doing blow something up - Moty Python
or Moby Grape
or just fucking Moby - can yoou believe that ugy?

ok ths is the deconstruction of a glass or a cup or something that held
sugar I don't know anyway it's not really blown up just made to look that
way
blah blah blah blah deconstruction of a face
deconstruction of a tree

I want to thank the virtual environmnets lab at WVU who - I mean - they -
are not respnsible for any of this
wanna see two guys? sure you do!
those guys they do dance the dance anywya this is also from motion capture
stuff - I have no idea who the hell thse people are? wanna see a
threesome? sure you do!

heh you probably thought they'd have clothes on!

epoets can't stand sex;f-poets can't stand e-poets
come to the f-poetry conference! ACAPULCO!

ok this is looking at some tents from a ehight
and this is getting the hell out of the way of motion capture mapping
thank you for the MOCAP software combined with Poser I think there was
some other stuff - anyway it's all body body body
ok this is using Interent Two hot INTERNET before INTERNET tTHREE to send
my partner's picture - Azure's - around the world or some such godforsaken
place and back again - everything's out of sync of course - so much for
the Net. Fuc the net.

I can't even tell you where the sound's coming from that's the new sound
let's just say it involves people and bodies and very low frequency radio
and let it go at that.

above, that's Azure deconstructed by one of the scanners - this one cost
185k and we managed to defeat the software

HAPPY FUN!
HAPPY HAPPY FUN!

me on autoharp (remember those?_) and Alpine zither - I'm the only fucking
avant-garde alpine zither player in the world - for real - cuase most
people don't even know what they are
my partner as a blue-green madonne stitched together from inompatible
pieces -

oh wait really I have something good!
heh heh heh! really good!
oh if you don't know it THATS NOT REAL!!
heh heh heh!
FUCK GOD. IF GOD EXISTS MAY I DIE NOW!
,OPOOOFFF!

The Idols of Geometry
2006

Paul Klee’s Park of Idols watercolor (1939) is divided into RGB grids
of 3X3, 4X4 and 5X5.
That is, the Red color channel is reduced to a 3X3 mean-averaged
grid, Green = 4X4, Blue = 5X5.

Re: Performance text, 123 Pleasant Street, BIOS conference, after equipment hassles

2006-09-15 Thread Jim Piat
What I like about this work of Alan's below is that it speaks to a little
piece of experience that normally does not get the attention it deserves
given the prominence it plays in my life -- and I mean the fear of public
fuck up. Way too big a part in my life. Cause I think I'm supposed to be
some sort of autonomous independent thinker or being. Not some damn
cowardly asshole easily swayed by the opinions or disapproval of others.

But we are social animals. So maybe not t big a part. Maybe just the
part needed to keep the social organism alive. Maybe just enough to keep my
one little cell from causing too much trouble for the overall good.

But whatever the case or proper balance -- the point is Alan's account here
captured the experience as it truly is for me -- sans preaching sans
horseshit sans me

and the truth which is to say that which is what it is without excessive
attempt to disguise what it is (that of course being part of what everything
seems in part to be) well that experience of what I'm calling the truth
is helpful in keeping me content

So that's what I liked about the piece which I call fucking with the mike in
an attempt to keep my composure while wondering why the fuck I'm doing this
and hoping like hell I can remember before I really feel shitty about
myself.

Happens many times every day -- but because of Alan's piece it is not quite
the demon for me as before. We are not alone. I am not alone. A comfort.
The joke is on us all -- we are each individually the butt of the joke but
in that we are all one.

And the joke is our own individual ridiculous pretensions and secrets --
but we are not alone in this. And that is the comfort I draw from Alan's
sharing (and for me revealing) a bit of his truth, the truth and my truth.

And I find much the same comfort in much of the work posted here. I don't
get it all (so what) but I often get some small part of a lot of it -- and
for that I'm thankful. The part that I think I mostly always get is that
here folks are trying to communicate in the broadest sense -- and in that
effort and in that accomplishment there is for me -- a great joy. And when
I say communicate (not to try to impose some definition) what I mean is
something akin to ah er to ah er -- well to what seems to be going on here
on this forum -- I mean its not just between or among us but with all of
experience or being

Maria.

this is really really going nowhere by the way Maud was choreographed

cutting hymn

cutting hymn cock-stared
since goods between fogs of wars
are just egg/talk yiz-slides tears
a few minutes gone buy peculiarly

wonders between rants
toastcrat comtails
 mukcon presculpted party favors

doubts both embers between watts
twat-cave stomming sheets o' sragic gourds

catch splotch between seance sensed
spoke something to devoted subjects
'bout token angels spewing elegies o' bush
while

grist nor games between nests
stalked the stranded swagger.
