Please note that if and when you do get it fixed to your liking, it
won't be to the liking of normal web users[1], particularly those who
employ a Gecko minimum font size, or user styles that override 'body
{font-size: 62.5%}'[2].

[WSG] Footer Problem IE5.x

2007-07-01 Thread Sarah Peeke (XERT)
Hello All,

I have been having two (2) problems with IE5.x and my footer.

1. Cannot get the horizontal background image to extend far enough to
the right (it should extend as far as the top nav image does).

2. If I don't include a dreaded hack in my css (which I'd really like to
remove because my style sheet doesn't validate) the bottom graphics and
copyright info float to the right of the navigation.

If anyone has a minute, please refer:

Many thanks

There's been frequent discussions here in the past on this topic - and
the consensus is that ems are good *once* you've set a size on the body
using a percentage - but don't get Felix started on any value other
than 100%... ;o)

[WSG] Font-size 62.5% problem

2007-07-01 Thread Paul Collins

Hi all,

I seem to be having trouble assigning the font-size:62.5%; property to
the body of my document. Basically, it doesn't seem to be working and
I can't figure out why. The font stays slightly larger than 11px, when
I set it to 1.1em. this has worked fine on other sites, so not sure
why it isn't working here. Any ideas?

Here is the CSS:

/* BODY STYLES */
body {margin:0; padding:0; color:#FFF; font-size:62.5%; background:#EAE7E7;}
* {font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}

#leftPanel {width:204px; float:left; font-size:1.1em;}

/* CONTENT */
#content {width:543px; w\idth:503px; font-size:1.2em; float:left;
text-align:left; padding:0 23px 30px 17px;}
