[wsjt-devel] PSK Reporter Spotting & intermittent internet connection

2018-12-13 Thread Julian VK4CMV
Hi -

This issue has been around a while, so not a V2 GA one specifically.

I'm off the beaten track at my QTH - consequently no ADSL or permanent
connection to the internet. I use an iPhone which gets a beautiful signal
from the towers on the hillsides around me - and I use a hotspot from that
to provide internet around the house. Works like a charm.

If I start WSJT-X up and subsequently activate my internet connection - my
station fails to report signals to PSK Reporter. The way to fix this is to
restart WSJT-X (not un-click and click the box in Settings-->Reporting)

Likewise, if I wander away from the house and my station loses the signal
from the iPHone, PSK reporting stops again, not to return until I
re-establish the hotspot and restart WSJT-X

Should I really need to restart WSJT-X?

No big deal - because I've learnt to work around it.

On another topic, there's a good opening in VK and ZL on 6m this morning -
and all the signal traces I have see are in the new 77 bit format. Which is
good!

[wsjt-devel] RC4 Mock

2018-11-19 Thread Julian VK4CMV
I've noticed that WSJT-X logging thinks it's on local time - see the
Contest Log - the QSOs do make it in Z time to my HRD log via JTAlert
though. (We are +10hrs on UTC)

There are some signals at 14.078 that I can't decode in RC4 or 1.9.1 -
which is a bit of a mystery (they were there before the 'contest' began).

It's a bit quiet on the western front ... but it works

[wsjt-devel] 9m0w on 30m FT8

2018-03-08 Thread Julian VK4CMV
Now here's a case for the the new DXpedition mode in WSJT-X; Stunning
pileup on 30m ... wonder what the other South China Sea listeners make of
this on their OTHR :)

[wsjt-devel] The native foxes and hounds are restless

2018-03-05 Thread Julian VK4CMV
Something interesting up on my screen early one morning on 80m ... also
getting warnings from the new WSJT-X about maybe I should be turning on the
fox/hounds mode. Too sleepy to deal with it at that time of the day.

Looking forward to the tests - might get through on the 20m one ...

[wsjt-devel] FT8 is forcing the discipline of split ...

2017-09-17 Thread Julian VK4CMV
Sorry, I know this is a dev group - but had to share this screen snippet
today from 15m when E6AG had just finished a QSO, a pileup of JAs on his
tail, one of whom was successful ...

More tools for finding the gaps please :)

[wsjt-devel] Bravo - RC2 r8069

2017-09-02 Thread Julian VK4CMV
What an achievement - well done to all.

I've been listening to and decoding weak signals down at the -20db level on
12 metres this afternoon - so the decoding in RC2 is remarkable and will
serve to further diminish JT65 traffic for sure.

Using Ft8 is like being immersed in a contest - fast and furious, no holds
barred, quick action - especially on crowded bands.

I spend a fair bit of time dodging and weaving through the waterfall
looking for a clear spot to call people and then working them split because
they have been inundated with calls from others.

So I've become adept at clicking the 'Lock Tx=Rx' - locking and unlocking
it to get the desired effect when moving around quickly and working split.

And it occurs to me that the UI might need some tidying up for Ft8 - it's
just a bit busy, both in its layout and in it's usage. This was fine when
you had 12 seconds to dither with Jt65, but in Ft8 there's no room for
error. No country for old men ...

Do general UI planning type discussions occur on this forum?

73 & see you in the breathless Ft8 pileups ...
