[wsjt-devel] FMT

2016-09-19 Thread Victor Batchelor
Hi Joe and all developers.
Are there plans to release the FMT group of programs in 1.7.0?
An updated version with the option to update the frequency settings wouls in my
opinion be very useful,
Keep up the excellent work.

Re: [wsjt-devel] JTSDK-Win32 - Feature Requests ( User Input Requested ).

2016-05-31 Thread Victor Batchelor
Hi Greg,
Thank you for taking time to reply.
Sorry I get confused with the different versions. What I was referring to is
WSPR-2 mode in WSJT-X.
The decoder is certainly much improved, and I like many truly appreciate your
changes.

Victor

Hi Victor,

I don't think WSPR-X is under active development. Joe and the other
developers are mainly focusing on WSJT-X and the many sub-programs /
modes it provides.

I would suggest trying WSJT-X >> WSPR Mode as it has a much improved
decoder over that which currently resides in either the original version
of WSPR or WSPR-X.

I would like the WSPR-X waterfall to show the real frequency rather than 1400

As an alternative the option to click on the waterfall to show the real
frequency would be fine but probably much more work.
Thanks for all your great work

Hello All,

It's about time to start work on another major release of JTSDK Win32
(v2.1), primarily to update packages, libraries, consolidate scripts,
reduce the overall foot print and number of installers.

With that in mind, I'd like to hear from those of you that use JTSDK on
Windows as what what sort of features you'd like to see added, things
you like / dislike or would like to see cleaned up / changed.

The following is a short list of things I currently have on the To-Do list:

* Reduce installer packages back down to one Inno-Setup script
* Consider using only Windows installers for periodic updates
* Reduce the number of redundant tool sets (JTSDK-DOC / Cyg32 for
example) Is anyone using this?
* Update the Asciidoctor tool chain to allow building PDF files in
addition to HTML documents
* Move all the tool \ library folders into a central location
C:\JTSDK\tools to clean up the cluttered root directory.
* Eliminate Python27. Is there a reason to have both Python2 and Python3?
* Eliminate AsciiDoc. Is there a need for both AsciiDoc and AsciiDoctor?
* Minimize the number or redundant mingw32 tools chains (MSYS and Ruby
DevKit both use the same tool chain, no need for both)
* RapidEE - Is this being used by anyone?
* Add more or reduce the number of generic GNU core-util aplications?
* Investigate the use of SQLite for package and / or upgrade management.
Are there other uses for SQLite?

That's a good start in reducing redundancy and disk space, but what
about new features and abilities? As it stands now, I personally do not
have a great need for much above and beyond what is currently available
one way or another, but others may have different needs. If you do, feel
free to pass along the request(s).

Re: [wsjt-devel] Upload Problem

2016-05-18 Thread Victor Batchelor
Hi Dave,
Many thanks for your reply.
Yes I run WSP mode in WSJT-X and tried both the 1.6.2 and 1.7.0 versions.
I emailed the station concerned to try to find out what software he uses and to
confirm his call is set up correctly set.So far I have no reply.
I assumed it was an upload problem as there were only a few spots in the DB and
I think they were from some non WSPR decoder as they showed every 8 minutes.
As I was copying him at -15 in Bankok I expected to see spots from many EU
stations.
I noticed later the text I copied and pasted from my RX window was garbled so
maybe he has something wrong in his set up.
I will provide more details if I hear from him.

Hi Victor,

I haven't seen any replies to your message, so I thought I would try to do
so.

I think you're running WSPR mode in WSJT-X. I'm not sure whether you intend
this to be a WSJT-X bug report or not. If so, perhaps you can provide more
details as to why you think this might be a bug in WSJT-X. Perhaps there's a
problem with WSPRnet.

[wsjt-devel] WSPR-X Time Accuracy

2016-04-22 Thread Victor Batchelor
Hi Guys,

The excellent updates to the WSPR-X decoder over the last few months certainly
produce more spots but there could be more!

It is a well known fact that WSPR-X is more time sensitive at signal end rather
than signal start.
If you live in an area populated by many hams you probably do not notice the
number of traces that do not decode.

I work almost exclusively on 40 metres and on a good night get 30+ unique
spots. In order to get all decodes I have to change my PC time (up to + or - 5
seconds).
Last night I had to chang it to get 5 out of 33 unique spots to decode.

There is a checkbox in the settings that says decode at 52 secs but this does
not work.

Obviously educating users to set their time accurately is a long, slow process.

The number of decodes can be increased by ensuring users have an accurate clock.
This can be achieved by:-

1. On startup opening a browser window to www.time.is. This shows the accuracy
of the users clock to New York time.
This does not sync the clock, it just shows the difference.

2. Building a SNTP time client into WSPRX-X. This is easy for Windows but I
have no idea about Mac or Linux.

see http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/38276/An-SNTP-Client-for-C-and-VB-NET

3. Modifying WSPR-X so it is not so time sensitive.

There are a lot of standalone transmitters out there but that is a different
problem.

Keep up the good work.

  1. The software often sends twice in succession. I have  TX Pct set to 20%

There are plans to use an adjusted transmission schedule that is not
truly random so that consecutive Tx periods are controlled.

  2. TX message appears in RX window even though selected off in settings
   Transmiting WSPR-2 --- 20m
The setting refers to outgoing QSO messages in other modes, perhaps we
should consider withholding the WSPR tx notifications as well based on
that setting. While we are testing the Tx notifications are useful.

  3. I much prefer the old frequency scale showing 100 to 300 instead of 1400
  to 1600
I assume you are referring to the waterfall frequency scale, I wonder if
changing the waterfall parameters automatically when in WSPR mode might
be a good idea? The 1400 to 1600 scale represents the nominal 1500 Hz
BFO frequency for WSPR and gives an accurate on air frequency when
 added to the dial frequency.

Yes I am referring to the waterfall frequency scale.
Selecting automatically would be fine or as in r3058 add a button on the
waterfall screen so either scale could be selected to suit the users preference.

r 3058 also showed the actual TX frequency on the receive screen which was very
useful

  4. The decode is much better on stations that drift

  5 What does TX-Enabled-Disarmed do?
This status information is related to QSO modes like JT65/JT9/JT4 and
can have the value Tx Enable Armed which indicates that double
clicking on a received decode will automatically switch on automatic
transmission mode. It has no meaning in WSPR mode.

Overall it is a great step forward. Thank you all for you hard wok

All of the builds are Snapshots of their respective branch. With very
few exceptions, there is no guarantee a given feature / function will
work, or even be included in the final Official Release. Also, things
may not always work as intended, or in some cases, they may not work at
all; this is normal during development cycles.

Official release versions are available on Joe's website:
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/

This may be the last version where WSPR (Python3 version) and WSPR-X
(Qt5 version) are provided as separate packages, as WSJT-X now includes
a WSPR-2 mode.

The New WSPR includes the C++ decoder from Steve (K9AN) and Joe. Joe has
added Band Hoping, Spot Uploading to WSPRnet and several other nice
improvements. Reading through Joe's development communications, WSPR-15
mode is still on the schedule for inclusion. When this will happen is
yet to be determined.

There is also a discussion about merging v1.6.1 back into the main
development branch v1.6.0. When this all shakes out, we may be back to
(2) or maybe just (1) WSJT-X app and the WSPRX + WSPR branches will
become inactive again. I don't know how those changes will affect the
current v1.5.0-RC branch yet. As they say in the Navy (Stand by to Stand
