Re: [wsjt-devel] Frequency selection dropdown truncated

2018-12-11 Thread Saku

Hi Chris!

There is a bit same problem with one user of cqrlog. See this thread:
https://www.cqrlog.com/node/2175 Specially "Reply to #3".
Wsjt-x is using QT where cqrlog is using GTK2 but it still could be same
symptom (but reverse).

Maybe it is worth of look at a bit deeper from this side of view?

I was unable to find a way to stop the truncation under LXDE and XFCE.
I haven't tried resetting the frequencies in WSJT-X yet, but I'll do
that soon and see what happens in all of the aforementioned desktops.
By the way, this behavior is the same whether I'm using RC5 or 1.9.1,
so unless something changed between an earlier version and 1.9.1 to
affect how QT interacts with the window manager, I believe this isn't
related to how WSJT-X is coded, but, rather, how the QT settings are
applied in different window managers.

Just sharing observations.

Hi Chris,

that is correct, the window manager (and possibly the graphics driver
and card) are not rendering display instructions that WSJT-X and the Qt
framework it is using as expected. There are several layers in play here
including Qt, OpenGL, the window manager, the graphics driver, the
graphics card each of which have optimizations to allow smooth, fast,
and optimal display of high level constructs of the overall GUI.

Hi Chris,

LXDE and KDE use Qt themselves and they do mess with it a bit, as does
Unity although not as much. Not sure about XFCE but if you see the same
there then it is probably the same cause. There might be some
environment variables or configuration variables to force Qt back the
normal behaviour.

Hi all

I’ve just installed WSJT-X v2.0.0-rc5 under a default Raspbian 9.6
installation. Everything appears to be working fine, except for the
dropdown list for frequency selection is truncated (please see
attached screenshot). Is this a bug?

Hi Greg,

this is highly dependent on the window manager used, for example here is
a screen capture using my Ubuntu dev system as a remote X-Server to run
WSJT-X on a Raspberry Pi, showing that it works just fine:

I prefer your chopped off info as mine cuts out the middle. So 7.078 (or
74) would be 7.07...(40m). Kinda makes it difficult to remember what you
have. It has been reported and maybe a fix in v2 release.
