Re: [wsjt-devel] Release Candidate WSJT-X 2.6.0-rc4

2022-09-24 Thread Martin Davies G0HDB via wsjt-devel
Firstly, a big thank-you to Joe and the entire development team for your
ongoing efforts in evolving and enhancing the WSJT-X software suite. You
really have changed the face of amateur radio (greatly for the better in my
opinion!) over the past umpteen years.

I run WSJT-X on a Dell OptiPlex 3070 PC with an i7-9700 3.0GHz CPU, 16G RAM
and a 512G SSD. The O/S is 64-bit WIndows 10 (fully up to date). I didn't
get round to installing and evaluating any of the earlier release
candidates (-rc1 thru -rc3) for v2.6.0 but I have today installed
v2.6.0-rc4 and have been using it for a few hours. The basic operation, as
far as I've been able to ascertain, seems fine but I have encountered an
issue...

For many years I've successfully used the 'Configurations' menu option for
defining and managing separate configs for different operating scenarios,
including 'normal' FT8 mode and FT8 Hound mode. Switching between the
different configs has never previously resulted in any 'misbehaviour' of
the software, and my successful use of configs has meant that I've never
felt the need for main window buttons to select different modes (FT4, FT8
etc) or to toggle Hound mode on and off - in my opinion they're entirely
unnecessary.  However, they've now been added to the WSJT-X functionality;
I expect I'll eventually get used to the presence of the buttons on the
main window although I'll probably only very, very rarely use them... :-)

When using -rc4 today I've found that switching between my FT8 Hound and
normal FT8 configs doesn't behave as expected, presumably since the
introduction of the 'H' button. I was operating using my normal FT8 config
and then selected and switched to my FT8 Hound config in order to work a
DXpedition station; when the WSJT-X switchover and restart had happened I
found that I had to click on the 'H' button to enable the Hound mode that
had always previously become active after switching to my FT8 Hound
configuration. The need to click on the 'H' button hasn't subsequently
been necessary when switching from the normal FT8 config to the FT8 Hound
config so the activation of the 'H' button now seems to have been correctly
recorded in my FT8 Hound config.

Then, when I had successfully worked the DXpedition as a Hound I selected
and switched back to my normal FT8 configuration, only to find that after
the restart the 'H' button is still shown as active and some of the
Hound-mode main window options (eg. Rx All Freqs) are displayed although
the Hound annunciator isn't displayed. I have to deselect the 'H' button
in order to revert to the normal FT8 config. This misbehaviour happens
every time I switch from my FT8 Hound config back to my normal FT8 config.

I've done a very quick check by switching through some of my other configs
which include contest-specific configs, eg. for WW-Digi and the RSGB FT4
contest series, and they all seem to switch correctly and behave as
expected, so it would appear that it's only the switching back from my FT8
Hound config to my normal FT8 config that's misbehaving.

I'll be grateful if this adverse effect on the switching between a Hound
and a non-Hound config when running v2.6.0-rc4 could be investigated and
remedied.

73, and thanks in advance.

2022-09-08 Thread Gary Rogers via wsjt-devel
I was able to build rc4 for Windows with JTSDK (with the latest Hamlet build)
and used it last night to make 17 QSOs. No issues to report. Also built it for
Mac Intel but I am only able to test it in receive mode at present. No issues
there either.

I had the same issue on my Ubuntu 22 AMD_64 Intel NUC boxes for rc3.
Successful build from source.

Previous releases installed OK from the .deb file.

Re: [wsjt-devel] Release Candidate WSJT-X 2.6.0-rc4

2022-09-07 Thread Dave Slotter, W3DJS via wsjt-devel
Joe et al,

I have confirmed successful build, install and smoke test of this version
of WSJT-X on 22.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) and Raspberry Pi OS: Raspbian
GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye).

Same issue with inconsistent file name and directory name still exists in
rc4 as I reported in rc3.

To update WSJT-X on Raspberry Pi, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint or
Fedora, one may run this BASH script:
