Hi Andreas,
I forgot to mention two Windows packages you need to install before
running the JTSDK installer, if you going to use that method. They are
very quick and easy.
Download:
1.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jtsdk/files/win32/2.0.0/base/contrib/vcredist_x86.exe/download
2.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jtsdk/files/win32/2.0.0/base/contrib/OmniRig.zip/download
Run the vcredit installer first, then unzip and install OmniRig. After
those two packages are installed, then follow the JTSDK instructions below.
These two packages are excluded from the JTSDK installer intentionally.

Hello, Greg and all,

Big thank you, Greg! That same PPA of yours also worked fine for
me for Ubuntu 14.04 aka trusty 64 bit. I'm about to give a
WSPR-presentation at a local ham club this coming Wednesday and
intend to recommend your PPA.
The PPA was built for Ubuntu. Mint uses the Ubuntu repositories for the
majority ( 95% + ) of it's packaging. The DE ( Desktop Environment ) has
it's own Mint repo, the rest is Ubuntu.
But: What should I recommend to Windows would-be WSPR users?
From where should those install WSPR?
You have (3) Options here ( it's your choice ):
[1] Install the posted version of WSPR
[2] Install the WSJT-Suite. This is used for Installer and Build
testing. It includes development branch builds for all the WSJT
applications.
Download:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jtsdk/files/win32/2.0.0/wsjt-suite/WSJT-Suite-1.0.24-Win32.exe/download
[3] Install JTSDK v2.0.0 and build WSPR + the Win32 installer, which is
very easy to do. You can also build all the other WSJT Applications +
documentation with the SDK. It takes a few minutes to install, but it's
fairly painless.
NOTE: I am uploading JTSDK-2.0.0-Win32.exe as I write this, it is a big
file, about 650+ MB compressed, about the same size as a Distro ISO image.
JTSDK INSTALLATION
* Download the installer from:
-:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jtsdk/files/win32/2.0.0/JTSDK-2.0.0-Win32.exe/download
* Run the installer as you normally would.
* Follow the prompts
* After the install finishes, update JTSDK by:
- Start Programs JTSDK JTSDK Update
BUILD WSPR + Win32 INSTALLER
* The launch JTSDK-PY from the Desktop Icon
* At the prompt, checkout WSPR with: checkout wspr
* Build the Win32-Installer: build-wspr package
* That will build the latest version of WSPR, and a Win32-Installer.
Install Location: C:\JTSDK\wspr
Installer Location: C:\JTSDK\wspr\package
Installer Name: WSPR-4.0-win32.exe
USING WSPR Win32:
* Install WSPR using the newly created installer; or:
* Run WSPR locally by running: C:\JTSDK\wspr\install\wspr.bat
Either way, that should do it. Enjoy WSPR :-)
On your remark on the official
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wspr.html :
The posted version wspr_2.11r2263_i386.deb is a bit dated and should
probably be updated.
I agree. It dates back to November 22, 2010. It is i386 only, no
AMD64 sibling. In an experiment today, I found myself unable to get
it installed, short of uniformly pushing down Python and every
software using Python from the present 64 bit to 32 bit.
I'll work with Joe and see what can be done here, but as far as the PPA
is concerned, 32/64 bit is taken care of automatically at installation.
So, if someone has the ability and energy to upgrade the version and
the page pointing to it, this lowly WSPR promoter would applaud!
A solution is already in place, see above.
Regards, another thank you, and 73,
Andreas, DJ3EI

Hi Pino,
As your using Mint, it is pretty staight forward. You can either build
it with JTSDK-Nix, or, the easier way, install WSPR via PPA which I will
explain below.
Install Via PPA, which is the latest in SVN r4889:
* At your desktop, open a terminal: Ctrl+Alt+T
* Add the PPA..: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ki7mt/wspr
* Accept the PGP Key
* Update...: sudo apt-get update
* Install..: sudo apt-get install wspr
That's it.
To Run WSPR:
* Go to Menu Sound Audio
* Double Click on WSPR
or
* From the command line, open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T)
* At the prompt, type: wspr
Edit your settings, making sure you save them:
File Save User Parameters
Note: When running from the command line, you may see some errors like:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2239:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.rear
bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed:
They can be ignored. The warnings can be fully eliminated, but its not
really necessary. This is not a WSPR issue. They are almost always
present, we just don't see them as rarely do apps run from the terminal.
On my Mint 17.1 install, I use the
