Re: [wsjt-devel] what is rtty mode?

2018-12-05 Thread WB5JJJ
It seems that after each test of the FT8 RU, I am one of "These guys". Not
used to having switched operational modes, so I'll send our 4 or 5 CQ RU's
before I realize that I'm not calling RUssia or doing the RU. A quick
configuration selection change fixes everything. Senior moment(s) are more
frequently of late. Way too much going on in today's world to remember all
the little details. Oh my..

I have received the same pop-up 3 times. It asks if I want to RTTY
contest mode (see attached picture). I looked but don't understand the
documentation. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Your screen shot shows that you have decoded several messages of tyhe
form "CQ RU ...", the CQ message used in the FT8 Roundup, ARRL RTTY
Roundup, and similar contests.

From the Quick Start Guide to WSJT-X 2.0, page 5:

"Casual operators who decode a contest-type message formatted for ARRL
Field Day or ARRL RTTY Roundup will be prompted to check the relevant
box so that they can transmit the required exchanges."

These guys just forgot to change their CQ message. Just click OK and
ignore the message box.

These stations with 5xx numbers should NOT be operating on the standard FT8
frequencies. They are operating as RTTY Round Up, but that starts on
14.130 and up to 14.150 and similar on other bands.
